Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

Thanks! it's a HOG2. the former doesn't support MIDI or CC patches.

    best octave pedal for bass???

I went for the cheapest and priciest, the OC3 and the HOG2. couple that with dual pitchshifters in a multi-FX and this is what it sounds like live, bass and drums only:

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

UPDATE: hi, sorry for the long silence. Wanted to say thanks to everyone for weighing in. I figured I'd share the results of the past year developing the band's sound. Here's a live session recorded last week, all sounds are real-time, bass guitar and drums:

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

seems powerful, thought a bit expensive, about twice as much as a HOG2. interesting! how'd you get to try it? it's officially on sale a week from now. I had no idea Line6 multi-FX had dual chains. I looked into it and noticed they also have dual send/returns which BOSS does not. What's more...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

good point. I can't recall a single artist who made a name of himself -or herself- with expensive pro gear (ok maybe I do, Mike Oldfield, Wendy Carlos, Gary Numan wrote Replicas in a $3,000 moog synth back in 79 (albeit borrowed from a studio (rented by the label and not him, which kind of...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

heck yeah, took your word and peaked around and a couple shinny things caught my eyes (or ears) big time. The Soundblox 2 Multiwave, some cutting edge fuzz right there, it's got an octave generator to boot —though I wonder if it's polyphonic. And then... the Hot Hand 3, what a killer app...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

EHX be feeling a little entitled I agree, hard to believe patents are getting in the way. I would call EHX's algorithm a real-time transpose sampler. Any DAW does it, Ableton Live has a transpose assigned to every wave sample, I think it can go from -48 to +48 semitones. It isn't CPU taxing...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

I'd agree; besides, they are always advertising it as an organ simulator, as if that was a great achievement (maybe). Eventide Makes a $499 shifter, yet it's got far more tracking and warbling issues than the cheaper 2011 Hog: Digitech's Whammy V/DT is the only other alternative to EHX's...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

Actually, yeah, Digitech's Whammy V (version 5), DT and The Drop are fully polyphonic since 2014; they finally developed a capable DSP engine. Makes me realize that EHX's code or algorithms couldn't possibly be copyrighted. On the other hand, their RP series multi-effect units were always...

Poly octave stranglehold? (or why aren't POG / OC3 types in MULTI EFFECT pedals?)

Hi, Being how pedal technology and DSP simulation has been advancing at breakneck speed over the past 10 years, why isn't there a single multi-fx unit that can do polyphonic octaves? there's some seriously high-tech gear out there: Zoom's MultiStomp which packs an entire zoom multi-effects into...

    boss gt-100

useful device, looks like you could plug the headphones output into the 1/8 jack of the Radial and use the BOSS GT001 to feed amps and P.A.. Nevertheless, the Radial pedal costs nearly as much as the GT10B which handles everything in one box: dual XLR, dual 1/4, and a stereo 1/8 outputs. How...

    OC-3 Bypass Issues...Help!

What about using the two inputs simultaneously, is it possible to plug a guitar and a bass and play them at once in poly-mode? I don't have an OC3 yet; Not that I would do that all the time, I play a double-neck guitar/bass with dual output —like a Rickenbacker— so it's two lines coming off the...

    Roland PK5 vs Roland PK6

Hi John, did you ever get the PK5 with synth modules? I'm curious to know how it worked out for you. There are too many options to pull off what you wanted, depending on budget. Say, a protheus FX costs about $100 and has a massive library. $200 nets you a Useaudio Plugiator which features an...

    boss gt-100

it's true, the GT001 has one XLR to plug a mic in, nifty. I don't think any BOSS pedal/multiFX has ever had XLR inputs. I'm building a double neck guitar/bass and I'm thinking I could use the GT10B or GT100 with both. however, I'm really favoring the GT10B at the moment, those dual XLR-outputs...

    boss gt-100

Really? I went to a store yesterday and tested a GT100 with a 5 string Steinberg bass, went straight for the PITCH SHIFTER, OCTAVE, and HARMONIST functions (FX1/FX2) and they tracked very poorly, open five (G) and four (E) strings didn't even register with the octaver! the harmonist was glitchy...
