    Hearing Loss and Ear Plugs

Now, why hasn't anyone else come up with that suggestion yet??? Thanks Stumbo!

"Real bass players use their fingers"

Haha. What a weirdo. For all you know, maybe he doesn't even play the bass.

upright bassist moving to electric - Technique help

You've got strong fingers, confident on a DB but you've trouble fretting on a EB? I'm pretty damn sure the action is way too high on your EB. There is no way a properly set up EB can be harder to fret than a DB.

    Left Hand Technique: result PAIN

Your left hand shape should never deviate too much from the basic shape as when your hand is in a relaxed position with the 4 finger fret position, i.e. one finger per fret. Also, don't pivot your left arm up and down the neck from your elbow, but rather, from the shoulder. It'll help keep your...

    Need help training my ears

Sing. If you can't sing what you're trying to play, you're just faking. It is much harder than you think, and it'll open up a new 'dimension' that you've not been aware of.

Fast jazz licks (how do you do it???)

GET A GOOD MENTOR/TEACHER/FRIEND/MUSICIAN to teach you or study alongside you. Learning jazz was never meant to be you and a theory book, no matter how comprehensive it is. Live the jazz life - listen to as much live jazz as you can, transcribe bass lines from recordings of jazz bass greats...

Fast jazz licks (how do you do it???)

Holy **** man. You just succeeded in grabbing that guilt from not transcribing lines that I've so successfully pushed down somewhere deep in my conscience and yanking it back up my throat. o_o Damn I hate transcribing! It takes so much damn time even though it'll probably be ultra-beneficial to...

Band Perfomance tips for good live sound (hopeful sticky)

Wow. There's such a variety of advice on this thread. o_o I'm going to pick and choose a few to try every week when I play at church and see which sounds best. :D Trail and error seems to work best when it comes to sound (for me), cuz there is just way too many variables at any one place, and...

is bass being pushed out of the mix by ignorance?

I wonder who has been spreading the notion that the EB should be 'felt but not heard'. Also, that playing the bass is 'boring' since we only play 'one note'. The biggest insult so far? I said to this guitarist, 'hey dude, you mean E minor right? There isn't E in the key of G maj', and he said...

    Hearing Loss and Ear Plugs

    Haha... That is so true.

Double Bass Has playing double bass changed your out look on electric?

I notice that the majority of posts in this thread pertain to the transfer of technique from the UB to the BG. What about musicianship? Has playing the DB changed the way you approach music? (especially in terms of solid, functional yet beautiful bass lines). Has playing the DB given...

    Opinions on Raising/Lowering action

I've always wondered why a lot of people like putting their action so low. The buzzing bugs me like a mosquito buzzing around your ear! What I've read so far is that higher action = more effort (especially on really fast licks), but thats ok. Nothing good and worth doing has ever been easy. =p...

How to correctly file down a nut?

I think the nut on my bass is too high. Should I file it down or just get a new one?

The Official Warwick Club Thread (Part 2)

Hello fellow Warwick lovers! I guess the difference between me and everyone here is that I don't own a Warwick yet, but I REALLY REALLY WANT ONE. Looks is one thing, but the amazing punch and clarity that cuts through the mix esp on the lows AND even the highs is what really gets to me...
