I've got a class A/B Harley Benton head, 600w @ 4ohm, and I run the VT Bass into the effects return. There's an old Peavey head at the rehearsal room with a power amp in socket so do the same there and leave my amp at home.

I'd vote a black/white/black pickguard on there, but a pearl could be good too. Hey, why not get one of each and swap them around as you see fit? Pickguards don't need to be expensive, and it's much quicker and easier to swap them on a Jazz than a Precision.
