    Stage presence + metal + shy guy = :-( ???

I'm kind of the same - I can't do the 'spin hair round like a propeller' thing while I'm playing. I let the singer do that, and sine he has hair down to his arse, he's much better at that than me! I try to move around as much as I can though - use whatever area on stage I've been given...

    Mesa 400+????

It's not in production any more, but if you find a good one second hand, it would be really worth getting. I love mine to bits, it gives a quite gritty aggressive sound which will probably suit your Wick down to the ground. And it's LOUD. Although if I wanted a very smooth 'rounded' tone out...

    Is my bass rig enough?

Lots of good advice in this thread, particularly about trying to set complimentary sonic space with the guitars. Also cabinet placement and angle has been mentioned - in my rehearsal space, if my amp faces across the room, most of the fundamental note vanishes! Makes my 400+ sound really weak...

    Warmoth Neck

Took about 3-4 weeks for mine to arrive, and I'm in the UK. I remember being really pleasantly surprised.

    Warmoth necks

Fair point - I was going a bit OT with the point about total instrument weight. Hope my other comments were of use to the OP though. Everyone's preferences are personal to them, but I know that I like my Warmoth neck very much indeed.

    Warmoth necks

My Warmoth is a wenge/bubinga neck with ebony fretboard, 5-string, Gotoh tuners. It 'adjusts' down a couple of degrees, but not much. I wear mine pretty low too. Weight-wise, that bass is fine. Walnut body. Seriously, all you guys complaining about weight need to man up and try my...

    EMGs-Why all the bashing?

I really like EMG actives - I have J's in my Ibanez and a TW soapbar in my Warmoth. Both sets are very open, clean and articulate to my ears. They're not perfect though. There's some hiss (not much though) and the TW in particular is quite scooped, although that might be more down to the...

Mesa Boogie"s...what do they sound like?

I have a 400+. Not for long so I can't give in-depth views (or sound clips) but so far I like it very much. Very very loud, lots of warmth in the sound and plenty of tonal variation. Good punch and note definition even in the lower registers (I play in drop-A tuning often). Plenty of...

    Resurection of a Warlock

I can't rember if this has already been covered, but if a bass has ever begged for all-gold hardware, this is the one. Really really nice work - it's going to end up being the nicest Warlock I've ever seen...

    Basses You Can't Have

Didn't Billy Sheehan do this as well? If you need the extended range, have the cash and don't find 5-string necks comfortable, that sounds like a good enough reason for me... Anyway, back on topic: a black 5-string Wal. Also re that Status Buzzard I - I had the opportunity to buy one around...

Hard cases - do you use them?

Each of my basses has its own case. 2 are hard cases, the other's a gig bag. Each bass lives in its case and travels in it. Job done.

    410 cabinet for metal

Just a slightly different suggestion from me - have a look at the Trace Elliot 1048H. I run a Mesa 400+ through one, and it has no problems at all cutting through a very thick metal guitar tone. Really tight clear sound. Also, as others have said, you need to emphasise the mids on your eq...

    Multi effects and compressor

As someone else has said, the Line 6 Pod XT is very good by all accounts - comes in a rack or floor version too iirc. I have a Korg AX3000B, which I like very much indeed, although I have a couple of quibbles with it. Has a built-in compressor, but how that compares to a standalone unit I...

    Mesa/Boogie Official Club Thread

Count me in to this. Picked up a 400+ that had seen better days earlier this year and, now it's sorted out, sounds amazing! I particularly like the definition of lower notes on my B string. I have it playing through a Trace Elliot 4x10, might see about adding a 1x15 at some point for even more...

    Warmoth Necks - Too Heavy?

I have a G5 walnut body with a wenge/maple neck. The neck is solid and chunky and it 'adjusts' down a couple of degrees when I put it on, but nothing to speak of. Much better than my alder/maple Ibanez, at any rate. Gotoh GB7 tuners.
