I have hipshot ultralite tuners on my basses and a hipshot bridge on one. The tuners have cured my neck dive issues, are precise, and look great at the same time. Can't beat made in USA products like hipshot!

Actually some Marshalls did come from the factory with 6550s. I have seen several JCM 800s still with their original GE 6550s and the internals totally untouched.

Maybe he biased it too cold. Sounds like you may be hearing crossover distortion which does not sound good and can happen if the tubes aren't biased hot enough. Bummer, time to take it back.

The bias would have to be off more than a little to get red plating like that. I hope you didn't run it that way too long, that is hard on tubes. Check the idle current and plate voltage and adjust bias accordingly.

Those are axial electrolytic capacitors. Pin 8 on the output tube sockets are ground and pin 8 of the rectifier is your B+ high voltage supply. Those caps are replacing the original that comes off the rectifier I assume. I can't tell where the old one is or if it's been disconnected. Kind of a...

You can test tubes with a tube tester and you can test the output of an amp with a signal generator, resistive dummy load, oscilloscope, and voltmeter. If you don't have these tools then you cannot fully test an amplifier's output.

A model number would help in looking up a schematic. Have you measured the resistance across the output transistors' leads? That would be the first place to look besides the obvious blown fuses inside. If you have shorted output transistors, chances are likely there are other things shorted out...
