Squier VM Jaguar Bass Special + EMG GZR PJ pickups or Fender Standard Jaguar Bass

I just installed this set on an Affinity Precision PJ. Obviously the rest of the bass is still what it is, but man, it sounds pretty much perfect. Strings are 50-105 Chromes. Grand total $400. Spent a few days slowly getting the setup right. I love it.

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

It also points out how crappy the original strings were lol. I got this bass with the intention of switching to EMGs and using flatwounds, but boy, I had buyer's remorse when I was trying her out with nothing touched. I'm very happy with the current state of things. I'm jamming with a drummer...

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

So far I've been playing along to practice sessions of my old band, and whatever comes on Pandora - I still stand by my opinion that switching from the standard Squier 45-100 roundwounds to 50-105 Chromes makes a bigger (as in, more immediately noticeable) difference. With the Geezer PJ set, I...

    Geezer Butler signature pick ups

I just installed these in a '16 Squier Affinity PJ, along with an Allparts pickguard! Everything fit perfectly. Stock knobs fit, no need to solder the output Jack, ripped the foam off the old pups and reused them. Strings are 50-105 Chromes. Honestly the strings made a bigger difference in...

    How many frets and why?

Don't the Precision and Jazz basses both have only 20 frets??

    Avoiding hand cramps

You haven't really provided any information. How low is your bass when you play? This might simply be a matter of adjusting your strap -- or something more serious that requires seeing a doctor.

The Official Sterling by Music Man Owners Club

I read somewhere (probably here) that Sterling instruments, including the SUB series are set up in California by the same people who set up Music Man instruments. I would definitely believe it. Whenever I'm at Guitar Center for something, I always spend a few minutes playing some basses, and the...

Sterling by Music Man SUB Ray4 and Ray5, Part 2

I had the volume mod done on my SB4 (which is the Sterling model, not the Stringray). This is a must-have.... the volume knob is finally useful!

So, If I don't play a Precision, I'm not a real bass player?

Pretty sure no matter what bass I play, I won't be a real bassist ;)

Dealing with the fallout from quitting a band

Bass playing Austinite here. That sounds like a pretty freaking solid gig to join, compared to what most bands have. My band has a dedicated space, but that's it. Like, I'm tempted to ask you for details. How hard did they look??

    Gallien-Krueger MB212-II Or?

I have this combo, and it kills. Band is pretty loud, and I have no trouble putting everyone in their place when needed. I've played gigs both with and without PA support - haven't had any issues yet. I usually leave the EQ flat, maybe occasionally boosting the lo-mid. I haven't found a good use...

    GK MB112-II

This combo has gotten the cops called on my band. It's pretty great.

Keep the SBMM or get the dream bass...with some issues

From your own words, I don't think that's your dream bass. Keep waiting.
