I was thinking about switching to German.
Why do you feel French bow is for sadists?
Not an argument, I'm actually interested if my suspicion that German might put the hand in a stronger position is correct or not.
Serious question - has anyone heard him play "bass" lines? I've only heard the slap and thump stuff.
What happens with excessive finger exercises... Your little finger ends up larger than your middle finger!
Those are some "not real" bass players! Those are some weird Precisions in the pictures above!
Makes sense. When I did the bass viol recording for my band, my hand was cramping like crazy by the end of the session and partially numb. For me it came down to comfort. When I took up DB I had a rental bass for 6 months trial before I committed to the instrument. It came with a french bow, so my instructor taught the Simandal method and the "proper" french bow grip.
After about 5 or 6 weeks of lessons I was getting cramps in my right hand from the bow hold. My instructor's personal preference for himself was German bow however, so he let me try his bow. It was an epiphany of sorts, and that night after the lesson I orederd the basic Gollihur rosewood German bow. No more hand cramps.
I don't own a P-bass and I play in three bands.You'll never get a gig without a P bass.
The odd thing is that the times I used a Fender, I thought I nailed the audition and someone else showed up with a borrowed bass and got the gig.![]()
Love em or hate em, a P will get it done. There is no law that you must, but if you do, it'll get anything you need done.
Nothing else need be said.
