Funny. Only another (insecure) bass player would bash MA. Maybe an audiophile. I don't understand what it is about music that turns your average nice-guy joe into an over-critical troll. Some sense of entitlement that every band and musician should sound 100% like your wet dream come...

Option 3. And I'd save enough to get a bass that you don't feel needs any upgrades. Honestly, if you're not happy with your Squier, eventually, you're not gonna be happy with an MIM, and you'll end up at Option 3 anyway. Save yourself some money. I'd personally never change a neck out...

+1. Whenever I first tried a Jazz bass, I knew immediately that I couldn't play comfortably on a neck that thin. And my hands are downright lilliputian.

I used to sub pretty frequently for a band that played square dances. Played acoutic guitar. Almost every song, just G-C-D, or capo up then play G-C-D chords. Songs lasted 10 mins, then everyone was tired, and getting instructions for the next dance...so like 10 mins on, 15 mins off...

Couldn't really tell you. The new MIM Fenders I have mucked around on at stores were all good basses. I've seen it said here that from around 2008-present, the quality of Fenders has improved. I honestly have not played an MIM Fender from before this period.

I'd never buy a Gibson. I've seen so many broken Gibson guitar headstocks, I'm too scared. But I would play one, and if someone gave me one, I wouldn't turn it down.

Usually all the way rolled off to maybe 25%....with the horn off. I like thump more than sizzle. If I'm playing with distorted guitars or guitars with crazy effects, sometimes I'll roll up some from that.

I'd get a custom Fender Jazz built with no Jazz pickups, a Precision pickup, and a Precision neck. :bassist: But seriously, I'm gonna agree with Meyatch. If you want a MIM for their "gets the job done" value, the market is flooded with excellent condition sub-$300 specimens. To get one...

So why are Stratocasters so much more popular than Telecasters? Could it be because Jimi Hendrix just liked them better?
