Which brands will you never play?

Here's the question IMO - Why won't you play those instruments? You stated you've never played some of them before, yet you will never play one. Are you above that quality as a player? Did you hear something one time that convinced you everything on your list was bad? seems narrow minded and a bit arrogant to me. Heaven forbid anything should ever happen (house fire, tornado, other natural disaster) and you lose your basses. I would bet someone here in this wonderful forum would be willing to help you out, but you might be above the brand of instrument that a kind member is willing to send you. Check your priorities and ego at the door. Play what you can and enjoy it.

Something that turns you off today may attract you next year. (very true when it comes to females) I've had fretless and eight string basses on my GAS list. Last week I tried a 197x Fretless P-bass. Yes- I loved it and will soon have one. I also tried a 196x Hagstrom eight string. Not for me. Not now. But I'll never say never....

Mostly because I don't like the look. Superficial and shallow, I know....but there are plenty of other basses in the Dean price range that appeal to me.

It's not just cheapie brands I don't like.....there are plenty higher dollar, higher quality basses that don't appeal to me as well. :)
It's not a money/status thing.

I'm sure I could find a nice cheap Peavey bass, if for some reason my current basses were destroyed. I'd choose Peavey or Squier over any of the brands I originally listed, if I were in a bind.

I think the OP is very short sighted...

Saying you 'won't play something' is ridiculous.

Playing an instrument you may think you don't like is not like eating meat that's against your religion or marrying someone that killed your mamma. IMHO.

Why the hell do so many things on this forum have to be absolute, black, white, love or hate?

A "bit" arrogant?? Maybe a lot more than a "bit".

Why does anyone play certain basses? Why does anyone not play certain basses?

...because they either like them or they don't.

Why would I play something I don't like?....for whatever reason.

I avoid that list of bass brands, because I don't like them.....

I can't speak for anyone else, but in my case that has nothing to do with it. For me it's all about cost. Believe me, I'd love nothing more than to plunk down $5K on a Wal, but when you're unemployed and money is tight you settle for what you can afford.

Mostly because I don't like the look.

In your first post, you say you don't like Hamer and Fender for the way they look. Now you say you play a USA Peavey Foundation 5 and an old Memphis P Clone. Yet stylistically, both of those are Fender knockoffs. So how is it that you don't like the look of Hamer and Fender, but own basses that look just like them???

So you own a P clone, but you don't like the look or styling of ALL SX's, or Aria's (who made some of the finest P clones ever). You own a Warwick and won't play a Spector?

Logic seems flawed somewhere.

SX headstock is nasty.

Spector came from experience and is nothing like my Wick.

:)

I say that I don't like the way Hamer looks yes......

Fender is because of the low B....haven't found one yet that sounds good....and they're overpriced. This is all, IMO.

With the Peavey and the Memphis in general, IMO, better basses for MUCH less money.

I made a broad statement, which left a lot of room for interpretation. Sorry. :)

There's something about each of the bass brands that I listed....that just isn't right to me....thus I don't care for them.
I didn't say that anything that looks like a Fender, I dislike. :o
