Which brands will you never play?

No offense OP, but brand loyalty seems kind of juvenile unless you've built up years (if not decades) of experience really getting to know a lot of different brands.
I can understand being turned off by aesthetics, after all, there are so many gorgeous basses, why play one that you don't like the look of?
But keep it in perspective. A more focused discussion would be something like "What are some traits you dislike in a bass?", and I might say, "well I don't like the feel of maple necks, the look of Lakland bridges, or the sound of J pups".

But not brands. tbassist4 said it best.

As for me, I'll start showing some brand loyalty when I have an endorsement or I own stock. :D

That's well put. I actually would love to PLAY MORE than limit myself. I have seen "styles" of body design that I wasn't fond of (flying "V" as you can't play in comfortably seated without a strap, something that is made to look like a hatchet, I think for a popular band, & things of that nature). But a "brand" as an issue not to play and instrument is somewhat foolish. Perhaps if the company promised that "of every dollar you spend on our guitars we'll give 25 cents to the local KKK chapter of your choice"....
Perhaps that would be a reason for me to single out a brand for avoidance.

There are a very large number of brands that I will almost certainly never own.

But that's because I'm more than happy with the one or two brands I stick to.

There are some basses that I don't even try when I walk into the music store.

These include: Schecter (nothing wrong with them, just not my thing), Yamaha (same reason as shecter), EBMM (I've never played one that was set up well and they're expensive), epiphone (not my thing at all), Dean (again, just not my thing).

Not to mention the dozens of lesser-known budget brands like Stagg. I rarely even look at those.

Blatantly discriminatory against bassists.

Oh, and I don't like the necks on Warwicks, so add them to the list.

Yeah yeah.. say you'll never try it, but wait until you're at some boring-ass dinner party and the host has some bass you don't fancy, covered in dust, leaning demurely in the corner. Doesn't matter how poorly set up it turns out to be, or whether it's a pink polka-dot sparkle 1/2 size toy with a headstock that says Fenber Seatlecaster. You will pick it up and try it because it is your only salvation.

There are several brands I'm not a huge fan of, but I'll give any brand a fair shake. Several times I've encountered an exception for a brand I didn't care for at all. When Traben came out, I really disliked them. Now, I own two. Lesson learned? Never say never. ;)

I'm not sure what the OP is saying is any worse than me saying "I will never own a Kia". That's despite the fact I've never driven a Kia or even ridden in one. I am just not interested in one. There are too many other car options that do appeal to me. It's entirely possible I'd be blown away by a Kia if I'd try one, but it's just not going to happen. ;)

Not sure what the future holds in regards to basses but I do know one thing:

So many people saying, "I won't play _______ because I'll never be able to afford it" is just a crazy thing to tell yourself, imho.
