Which brands will you never play?

It's terribly short sided and arrogant to say you won't play those brands because you have "taste". I own several Fenders, have owned several Spectors that I loved and have a Epi Viola that plays and sounds like an absolute champ. Are you saying I have no taste because I play those brands of instruments?

No, not at all. :)

You just have your own taste. Your own set of likes and dislikes. :) I'm proud of you.

I say that I don't like the way Hamer looks yes......

Fender is because of the low B....haven't found one yet that sounds good....and they're overpriced. This is all, IMO.

With the Peavey and the Memphis in general, IMO, better basses for MUCH less money.

I made a broad statement, which left a lot of room for interpretation. Sorry. :)

There's something about each of the bass brands that I listed....that just isn't right to me....thus I don't care for them.
I didn't say that anything that looks like a Fender, I dislike. :o
You make a broad statement like that and wonder why people question you on your logic??

Fenders are "overpriced"?? Not according to the tens of thousands of people that have made Fender a highly successful company.

Many Hamer models look just like the Fender clone you own. Since you've never played one, and you play basses that look similar, where is the support for your position?

If you can't support what you say, why say it in a public forum??

That I can accept (without the sarcasm) - we all have different tastes, but one does not have taste because he likes one thing and not another. By that definition, if I like something you don't then I have no taste. That, I take issue with.

However, I would still temper my "never own this brand" comments if I were you. It's possible that Dante's 7th level is full of Spector and SX basses, and you might be bummed for an eternity. Just enjoy what you like and stop trying to see what everyone hates. It's just poking the bear.

There's really no reason to attack it, simple questions could have easily cleared up your concern.

To me, they are overpriced. Again, my opinion. I wish Fender prosperity in the future. Nothing against them, I even dig the way they look (classic), but they're just not right for me.

I don't like the look of Hamer basses......whether they look similar to a Fender or not.

Again, never said I didn't like the look of Fender basses, or basses that look similar to Fender basses.
Something just isn't right with certain brands, and in turn, I don't like them. simple.
no 40 page dissertation needed.

This is a public forum and I'm free to say what I'd like, as do you.

Good day. :)

Going by brand is a really asinine way of doing things. There's so much variation from bass to bass even within the same series that you just have to take each bass individually and forget about whatever is on the headstock - this includes brand AND series. Whenever I go to actually try out basses for a purchase I'll play all of the basses of whatever style I'm looking at. Each one feels a lot different from the last, and the sound varies considerably.

It's totally ridiculous to say you don't like a whole brand just because you tried maybe two or three of their basses from one shop and didn't like the feel. For example, my local shop is notoriously awful at setting up their Fender basses. Even their American line and vintage basses either aren't set up or are done so very poorly. If I were to base my entire opinion on Fender basses just on my experience from this shop alone, I'd say they were terrible and uncomfortable. Now, I'm not a huge Fender fan myself, but I know they're well made, popular basses that have a great industry standard sound. The only reason I've come to this conclusion is by playing dozens of them from several shops in several states over the years, and seeing the best and worst of how they play.

Going by brand is the worst thing you can do - you'll cripple yourself as a musician.

I didn't come here to judge your tastes.....I did ask about your taste in basses, and am interested to hear them.

I don't believe in hell, so there's zero chance I will be obligated to play Spectors and SX basses there.

If you'd prefer to tell me what you like, over what you don't....I'm cool with that too. :)

The problem with a thread like this is that it starts from the negative and so is destined to just irritate folks. That one dude who has a kit that I might say I'd never play *will* get his knickers in a twist - count on it. So why start from the negative?

Incorrect sir. :D You judged just about everybody's taste in basses when you started a thread knocking a bunch of popular brands. Without listing reasons for why you wouldn't play these basses, the rest of us are left to assume blind prejudice. I'd love to hear specific reasons of why you don't like certain basses - that would potentially be worth reading. What's not worth reading is a random forum poster's attempts at a multipage trolling spree. ;)

Well, you really did judge my taste in basses, didn't you?. You stated you would never play those basses, when I stated it seemed narrow minded and a little arrogant, you asked if it was arrogant to have taste. You basically stated that those who play those brands have no taste. I do play those brands, or at least some of them as do several other members here and bass players world wide. Seems like you judged my taste, and others, in instruments.
