Which brands will you never play?

I'll never play a brand new bass, again, I've had more fun with my used gear purchases these days, I think I got over paying top dollar for new stuff the day I returned to the club and My BRAND SPANKIN' NEW MODULUS was strapped around my guitar player's girlfriend as she said "I think I'd like to learn to play bass!"

Plus I've been able to play/own some pretty cool gear that otherwise, I probably would have never tried...

Yeah yeah.. say you'll never try it, but wait until you're at some boring-ass dinner party and the host has some bass you don't fancy, covered in dust, leaning demurely in the corner. Doesn't matter how poorly set up it turns out to be, or whether it's a pink polka-dot sparkle 1/2 size toy with a headstock that says Fenber Seatlecaster. You will pick it up and try it because it is your only salvation.

YOU were at that dinner party, too?

No need for folks to get defensive about this. People have opinions and prejudices, and even if unjustified, even if foolish, who cares!?

Since there are so many brands, I figure I could easily avoid brands that I don’t particularly care for, in a purely prejudiced way, not that they’re not good.

Dean, BC Rich, Gibson/Epiphone, Carvin, SX,

And as much as I like looking at them, I can’t see me actually see me using one of those coffee table geek basses... even if it is a single-cut five-string spalted maple… argh!

:)

I urge you not to do that. Your positions are crippled by absurdity, and as a result you've been pummeled here. Posting similar threads in the future will not be a success for you.

This will be my last reply to you, as I don't value your posts anymore. :hmm: I've taken just about as much abuse as I can handle in one thread from you.
It's one thing to disagree, but what you've done is uncalled for.
I'd urge you to ignore me in the future if you don't like my posts or threads, rather than blast me from your pedestal.
You do not have to post in my threads, remember that.

Don't like me or what I have to say, ignore it. Be the better forumite.

Seems like you're blasting each other from different pedestals. It actually is quite fun to watch. :D

EDIT: Also, I'd love to hear your reasons WHY you don't like the aforementioned brands. Is it look, feel, tone, or something else? From a subjective point of view, any of these are valid for either liking or disliking a brand. Honestly, this thread is pretty boring if we all just list things that we don't like. The explanation is the interesting part.

Probably Vox. I had a Vox and it seemed made cheap. I know lot of the old British invasion bands played them, as well as Paul Revere & the Raiders Bass player Fang and the Cars Bass player, but I still don't remember any unique sound out of them. In fact, Bill Wyman's said he hated his signature Vox Bass.

Ibenez or ibanez what ever. Hate em... never want to try one again. I Hate squire even more though such a bad bass imo i hate mine i want to throw it out my window burn it then sh!t on it xD. the only reason im not is cause its my first bass :) If not it be dead by now.

He already answered why. No reason, just doesn't. Even though he may not have even played them. As far as being boring, we're on page six. I surprised the moderator hasn't closed it down.

I don't care what brand it is as long as it sounds good.

From a design/construction standpoint.... I'm a big guy with XL hands and I absolutely hate skinny little toothpick necks with narrow string spacing. They cause me a lot of hand fatigue.

So I tend to go with basses that have big ol' chunky necks with a fair amount of string spacing. The first time I picked up a 5ver it finally felt like I'd found something that was made to fit in my hands. :D

My dream bass would be an American Fender P string, but I've been thinking about giving the Lakland Skyline 55-01 a try. I'm really interested to see how much difference the Plek process makes.

I will probably never own:

A Dean:

I've played them before in shops and I've never been impressed by them.

A Fender:

I've had several of them. USA, MIM, and MIJ. The 4 strings were great, but since I prefer 5 strings, I've never had a Fender V that I liked though. :hmm: I wouldn't mind trying a Roscoe Beck V but that's about it.

A Carvin:

Never had a Carvin that I've liked. I even ordered one of the new SB5000's and it just didn't fit me. I doubt I'll ever own one again.

A Spector:

I hate EMG's and the Spector body shape is too small for me.

A Warwick:

A lot of them sound really good, but I don't like the small body shape and they are all really expensive.

An Epiphone/Gibson:

They really don't offer anything that I'm interested in.

BC Rich:

Can't get past the look. They are too radical looking for my tastes.

Washburn:

I've only played few and I wasn't impressed. I doubt I would buy one.
