Zon basses - is everything OK ?

No word yet. I will be running over here to say when I have the bass. Similar to @RodRy I felt like it was worth it to take the risk. I wish I’d ordered a Pedulla when I could, and we never know how many more Zons will be produced.

    Refreshing an old Carvin

‘95 LB76F here. I couldn’t stand the stock electronics. About 15 years ago I swapped the pickups and preamp with Bartolini. I’m not the biggest fan of Barts for anything but fretless, and they did the trick. Bartolini has a specific preamp for fretless that changes the frequency centers. It...

    Zon and Electronics...

Right? 5 years later and still waiting. I did get this picture about a month ago. So it’s actually happening, and hopefully soon!

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Yes, I saw the booth when I was there a few years ago. And the pics Joe sent me of the progress on my instrument were in the booth, which I doubt he would have those pictures if they outsourced finishing.

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Not yet. If I don't hear from them by the end of March I'll reach out again.

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

An update: I received pictures of my bass hanging in the paint booth, and Joe saying he’ll invite me out to the shop next month. I don’t know if that means it will be finished then, or if that will be to answer any lingering questions (the electronics I requested are a bit odd). Either way, I’m...

Holy cow, just discovered exposed cores

I just installed the Super Steps; sorry I didn't grab a picture with the SR2000s on there. I had to adjust the intonation on the G and B strings, but not by much. I would prefer these with a bit less (1/4" maybe?) exposed core. But they play and sound fine for now. I have practice tonight and...

Holy cow, just discovered exposed cores

Sadly, I don't think these are available anymore. Someone gave me a set a few years ago with a bass I bought. I put them on my G.Gould and loved them! I just went looking for a new set and, well, I didn't find a new set. However, thanks to this thread, I'll be trying the La Bella Super Steps.

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

It's a new build. Order was placed at the end of June, 2021. There have been some manufacturing setbacks along the way that were out of Joe's hands, but I think mine was placed on the back burner due to the custom nature of it. I'm suspecting more and more that the orders that were placed...

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Yeah, the end of this month will be the 4 year mark on my 14 month build. There are some murmurs of progress, but I won't believe it until the bass is in my hands.

Im transitioning... not understanding the preAmp thing.

I've sold or modified every fully passive bass I've had. I definitely know which end of that spectrum I fall on. I do see some people get confused/overwhelmed by the sheer number of knobs without understanding what they do, and they usually just turn them all all the way up, which sounds like...

    Nordstrand Poly Vox

I've got a G.Gould with the Big Blades in it, but I'd be curious about the Poly Vox for that bass as well. Just to clarify, I LOVE the Big Blades on that instrument. I"m just always ready to try new things too.

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

Anyone else hearing anything? I'm coming up on the 4 year mark and only hear back when I ping them first. @HardNormalcy What was your total wait? And did you have to keep prompting them?

Zon basses - is everything OK ?

It’s been two months since Joe last told me he’d have an update for me in a week. I’m guessing by the fact that there hasn’t been an update to this thread in nearly a month that nobody else has heard anything. Bummer. I’d love to start seeing some NBDs with Zons again.

    Bass PAF style humbuckers

The magic of the “PAF” humbuckers is that they often had mismatched windings. It wasn’t intentional, but it happened. This gave them a little more ‘bite’ or ‘edge’ than a humbucker with equal windings. And they had Alnico magnets. @mikefoye is that what you’re looking for, but for bass? I...
