Zon basses - is everything OK ?

I’m excited. It’s been a lot of things contributing…not to excuse, I had a hand in it too of course (I don’t want to rehash and rip open wounds, it’s all here in the pages prior).

I think it’s going to be a stellar instrument and I’m excited to have another Tbird style bass in the quiver :)

Hoping you get that soon, I would love to see it!

I was a Zon player for 12 years - great instruments. My concern for a wait that long (with any builder) is, personally, after 8 years, my tastes would have shifted. That's worse than the wait I think. "Yes, finally!... Dang, why did I order this size scale, and this string spacing, and with these pickups, and gah!! the preamp!..."

(etc)

That said, I hope it turns out great for you!!

I hear you. Changing tastes is one reason why GAS never ends!

Well, after 14 months, I’m happy to say My Sonus Special is here. .
I have reached the 4 year wait time on mine. Still waiting. While the communication happens (when solicited), I've all but lost faith in seeing it. I've been a diehard Zon fan since the early 2000's. I still own two that I thought I would never part ways with until recently...
I’m officially past the 8 year mark.

How does one reconcile congratulations for on-time delivery in the face of absence of delivery? A customer that apparently matters received what they paid for. Others are totally disregarded while their money is gone. The main "taste that has shifted" appears to be by Zon, who may once have practiced fair, equal, responsive, and committed customer service and care. So, congrats to the one that received a bass? Condolences to those that have received nothing, or at best, empty promises. A modern sort of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde business scenario right before our eyes. .

First time in the page? Its worth reading the back stories (86 pages worth) to understand why it is a sincere congratulations. We are all rooting for Rumblefisher to get his covered prize.

I tried to make it “timeless” for that exact reason. My tastes did shift to a 32 neck but we scrapped that after the 34 neck was already made, there would be additional cost and wait, etc…

Honestly it’s pretty basic…
Swamp ash body, no exotic top
34 scale set neck (which is the biggest “upgrade” here but that’s the way they used to make the Vinny anyway)
Passive electronics
Zon spec ceramic bartolini humbuckers

Blows my mind further, then, that something 'pretty basic' would still not be in your hands. You're a good egg, Charlie Brown. I would probably have come completely unglued at least once during this process.

Well, did you post that you really got the bass after the announcement it would soon be ready to ship?
(If so, I must have missed that info.)

I'm just asking because, well, we're in this particular thread...
Hey, I got word on Sept 25, 2024 that the Zon was on the workbench and would finish up on the 27th (Friday). I made payment that following Tuesday. Zon built a hardshell case for it and shipped it out later that week. The first pic I have of the bass in my possession came Sept 2024. I will post the pic here:

Congrats! I can't play fretless but Wohh just Woooohhhh, when they deliver they delivery!

It was about 24 months build time. There were some slight delays, but being a small company, I feel they are very sensitive to forces outside their control. For example, I know Zon had a shipment of Ash wood delivered that unknowing to them, was eaten up by a certain parasite (some type of wood worm if I remember correctly). This of course would disrupt a company's build time if the wood was unusable and returned and replaced. How much of a delay? That timeframe I do not know.
I am happy to report that Zon fulfilled my request for a light weight mahogany body, and I was able to choose my maple top from a gallery of pics they sent me. Overall, the bass is around 9 lbs. with most of the weight is from the neck. Here is a side shot. I will take a pic of the back if you are interested to see. It is a lovely piece of mahogany and was sent a pic from Martin before it started production.
