Yes.. the “complete and natural ease” is a rare attribute. One of the concepts Joe L spoke to in his teaching to the drummer I work with is the importance of learning to comp for bass solos with that ease of touch - he said every bass player would LOVE him for putting in the work to achieve that...

I didn’t mean to imply you should change anything. Your playing serves the music very well. Complex harmony, re-harms, bass solos, etc don’t necessarily serve the music better.. Hearing Christian’s choices inform how they affected the music. I.e. his articulation, line shape, register, sound...

I would hope to feel exactly like you did, Jason! Hearing a master’s choices in serving the music, to inform your choices.
