Haven't tried the SpectraComp but I really dig my SD Studio Bass comp. Takes up a little more space on the 'board but offers lots of control once one figures out the knobs. It allows a wet/dry mix which I like -- I'm sure the TC one can do that too, though I prefer analog. good luck!

Consider an "anti-rig"!! A good preamp with a DI (SansAmp, VT Bass DI, Tone Hammer, MXR M81, Darkglass b7k) into a good powered PA monitor speaker (QSC K12, for example) can yield great results and get inside with one trip from the car. Not as sexy as that Ampeg 8x10 setup but once you learn...

I usually lead with my middle but "in the moment" it can't matter - gotta play the song with the finger yer on! If you play the downbeats with your middle finger and upbeats with your index, it makes it easier to use that longer middle finger to jump to another string for the downbeat there...
