What album made you want to play the bass?

Grand Funk Railroad, "Closer To Home". Mel Schacher was the heaviest thing I'd ever heard.

    What glue for peeling tolex?

Hey folks, I need some advice. I have a Hartke Hydrive 1x12 cab whose tolex is starting to peel off at the seams. I like the cab, just annoyed with this defect. So what kind of glue can I use to restick the tolex to the wood? Elmers? Woodworking white glue? Some special goop designed for...

    coolest band names ever.

Very clever: Jesus Chrysler And a local band, no longer in existence, with a name I'd love to steal/resurrect: Speak the Language

Is it just me or does anyone else hate this line?

A retro rock band I was in several years ago, we got rid of a girl singer who loved singing "White Rabbit" by Jefferson Airplane. She took it hard, and would occasionally show up at subsequent gigs to heckle, and after we finished a song would yell "White Rabbit!" from the back of the room...

    Moving from Eden to Markbass?

IMHO that's a step down/backwards. You (perhaps) gain a little portability, but lose EQ control, compression, and some degree of flexibility. I have a WT800 and a Markbass Big Bang, and they're two different kettles of fish.

    [Minneapolis/MN Thread] Midwestern Comradarie

I could bring my LB75 - would that do?

    [Minneapolis/MN Thread] Midwestern Comradarie

Hi! I'm a sometime lurker here, but interested in meeting y'all at a GTG. I'm an old fart, playing bass since '73, but relatively new to the forum. I've subscribed to this thread, so I'll get the updates. I've been in a few cover bands in the cities over the past decade plus, but usually as...

    Responsibility for license?

@domdec314, I think you have it right. IMO (I'm not a lawyer) the event organizers are on the hook for the license. They know this (as evidenced by that clause being there), but seem to want to pass it off to the performers and not get the license. If you sign the contract with that clause...

Another Cab OR Go Direct Out To PA?

While the PA board is probably able to handle full-range frequencies, I would bet the PA speakers (having been for vocals only) would not handle your bass. If they're not running subs in the PA (and why would they for vocals?), you wouldn't get the results you want going into the PA. Get the...

    Classic Rock "dead"?

I don't think classic rock is dead, but the window of what's acceptable is getting smaller. First, ask yourself who is going to clubs to dance nowadays. Unless you've found a "boomer bar", I think it's mostly the 20- and 30-somethings who aren't yet mired in the work/house/baby trap. (And...

Songs that NEVER fail to get the chicks shakin' da booty on da dance floor

An easy way to start (besides getting excellent suggestions in this and other forums) is to go to the DJ Intelligence Top 200, a list of the most requested songs. DJ's nationwide update this list constantly, so it's practically up-to-the-minute. It generally won't take regional preferences...

Looks like I've joined a band

I hate to rain on the parade, but you're in the wrong band, man. These tokers, as a group, aren't going anywhere. The singer isn't musical, the guitarist is a prima donna and won't associate with the band on break, and there are no goals or vision - don't be surprised if it folds like a card...

    Mid-Sized Amp Advice

Well, that came to a quick resolution. Found a used mint HyDrive 112 on eBay with free shipping, offered $300 - sold. I think I'm a happy camper.

    Mid-Sized Amp Advice

I like this advice. I've continued to do my research/reading, and am kind of leaning towards buying a Hartke HyDrive 112 - 300w, 30 lbs, $399.99 at MF. I can keep the Berg, and add another HyDrive later, giving me lots of options for future gigs. Great idea!
