Double Bass Bluegrass festivals from a bass players' perspective

Can't speak for many festivals, but I do attend the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield, KS every year (www.wvfest.com). They don't call it the Picker's Paradise for no reason. The campgrounds are full of music. Wide open and friendly folks for the most part. I highly recommend this festival for...

Invalid Link Removed Here are some great basses in your price range. From one of our own who is selling off her collection due to the tragic death of her husband. Good luck Shawn

Double Bass What happened to the old BluegrassBassPlace website?

tnbassgirl, I believe that the admin on that site went away and left it untended until it would no longer function. Most of the folks who used that forum can now be found at BassGrass.com. See ya there! Shawn

    Double Bass Beyerdynamic KBM 1?

Jan, Thank you very much for your reply. I ended up buying the mic and have used it on my upright a few times although it is really sensitive and picks up the squeak of your fingers moving on the strings so I use a little piezo most of the time now. Shawn

    Double Bass Festivals

You might keep an eye out on Blugrasstoday.com. The festivals all seem to advertise there from time to time and the writers and viewers post about them as well. I personally enjoy the Walnut Valley festival in Winfield KS. It is held the 3rd week of Sept every year. 2014 will mark the 43...

Double Bass 3/4 timing what to do?

I haven't been doing that Doc, but I am sure going to give it a whirl. It looks like it will sound fantastic without stepping on the other instruments. Thanks Shawn

Double Bass Strings for '51 American Standard Upright?

Inichols, I also own a '51 American Standard (serial #2137 to be exact) it is currently strung with Super Silvers and sounds incredible with them. Although I am extremely new to bass playing, I took the bass to a festival I attend annually and it was played by several pretty decent bassists...

Double Bass First Bass to be purchased after Deployment. Recommendations?

Corporal Glenn, First and foremost I want to thank you for your service! In my house US Service members are always welcome! Now to your question. I am not sure what kind of music you are into, but since you mentioned painting your bass up I am assuming rock-a-billy. If that is the case, you...

    Double Bass Tensing up...

Mr Swan! Very nicely said! concise and to the point and exactly the point I was originally trying to make. A very good possibility that I was too verbose (something my wife will agree too most always). And maybe I could have chosen a few words better as well. Instead of saying be more...

    Double Bass Tensing up...

No point trying to buy diesel fuel at a hairdresser salon. Love this quote! And I agree that there are areas set up for different aspects of discussion, when I new person joins the group, people who read the post that have knowledge in that area might as well try to help as well as directing...

    Double Bass Tensing up...

While no one actually said anything disparaging to the new member/OP, no one actually helped her with her question either. As a new member to THIS forum, but not new to forums in general, I have noticed a very strong tendency of this forum to expect military like discipline as to where things...

Double Bass Made it to the shop with my American Standard

I will definitely keep you updated. I think it will be around the 1st of August before my bass returns home. The luthier is headed to a month long bow making and repair class and will be out of town for most of July. Since I let the damn thing sit around in the basement for better than a year...

    Double Bass The Sheep Tone

Sorry didj, this thread has gone to hell in a wool hat. But I think the point you are making is valid. Sound comes across the wood as a vibration in wave form. Certain woods vibrate better than others, i.e. thats why spruce is so prevalent in instrument making. It only makes sense that different...
