You can get the Hartke LH500 for $350 new online. I just got mine two days ago so I'm still in the honeymoon phase but its a great amp for the price. I think its sound is similar to a clean fender bassman. For what its worth Victor Wooten uses the 1000 watt version...so how bad could it be :p

My eq is a little scooped, so mids cut a bit and lows and highs boosted. Nothing too drastic though. And it does get extremely loud before the speakers start to fart. I guess I was just wondering theoretically why this happens. If it is the amp clipping then why do all the companies make solid...

Hmm mine's just in standard tuning. I will say I have a pretty bass heavy sound...that seems to make it happen more but I don't exactly understand why. I don't think it has anything to do with the avatar brand though. I ran into the same thing with my old swr cab.

It was really bizarre but I kind of liked the arrangement...just singing it acapella gets boring IMO. Horns are cool too.

My band has one we use for guitar but I've played bass through it and I really love the tone. If we had another one I'd use it for bass but for now the Hartke LH500 does a pretty good impression of it.
