    Turn Up n' Play Soft?

Thanks for the replies guys. Looks like I need to suck it up and just get better, can't blame my lack of dexterity on hitting the strings too hard. That being said, I will practice all those different ways. Should be fun.

    Turn Up n' Play Soft?

Hey folks. I've been gigging around town for almost a year now, and now that I'm in front of people more often and challenging myself with new, more difficult songs, I have to assess my technique situation because it seems like I've hit a rut. I see videos of bassists all the time where is...

73' Fender Jazz Reissue - What pickguard?

Howdy. I've got a MIJ 1991 Fender 73' Reissue Jazz Bass, and I'd like to buy a black pickguard for it. I've looked on Pickguardian but I don't know which of the models applies to my bass. Can anyone point me to the correct hole pattern? Thanks in advance.

    Jazz trios with bass guitar?

I don't know if there are any GREAT trios, but I've performed at festivals and things with just a drummer, piano and myself, and I played my bass guitar. You just have to dial in the right sound. I use a passive Fender Jazz with DiMarzio jazz pickups and flatwounds. It's doable!

    Douglas Bridge - Setting Intonation

Hey, folks, I received a 5 string Douglas bass off rondomusic.com as a gift. Problem is, around the 12th fret it starts going sharp. I need to set the intonation, but the bridge doesn't seem to have that option. The string saddles can move up and down, but they seem to be set on some kind of...

How does your band write music?

Sometimes a member will come to the jam with almost a whole song together, words and all, and we'll piece it together from there. Other times an improve groove jam will structure itself into a chorus and bridge and we'll expand it. Our lead singer is the master of making up lyrics on the spot...

My first choke after 25 years of playing

I'm the master of giving in to peer pressure, and Ms. Jane is my first love, but I've never smoked before a performance. Drink, yes, which I regretted a time or two after nailing the wrong notes... You gotta build up a tolerance or quit it altogether. In regards to burnin' it up, I took the 2nd...

True Bypass and POP when switching

Thanks for the replies! I will probably try to click it on and off a bunch of times before I use it, and if that doesn't work swipe a resistor from school and fiddle the the innards.

True Bypass and POP when switching

Howdy. I've got a DHA overdrive/distortion pedal that pops very loudly when I turn the true bypass on and off. From what I can gather, true bypass just...does that. What I want to know is if the pop can do any damage to house speakers or anything like that? Of if there's any way (compression...

    5 String Brite Flats

Hey, folks, I bought a 5 string set of GHS Brite Flats for my Douglas 5 stringer. I'm a bit concerned about the gauge of the B string, though. It come out to be 0.129" and it barely fits in my nut. I don't mind the thickness, but I'm concerned about it bending my neck all to pieces. Anybody...

Ran out of songs? Play 'em again!

Hell, it's better than "HEY 12 Bar blues in G for 20 minutes! GO!"

Has anyone here abandoned their 5 string basses totally for 4 strings?

I enjoy my 5 for hard nasty rock and my 4 string Jazz for slap and smooth jazz. I do try to slap on my 5 and I end up hitting two strings at once and I'm like "Damn I forgot I was playing 5..." So your scenario may become very real for me if I find a 4 string growler.
