    I don't get $400 preamp pedals ...

As the thread starter, I should perhaps apologize for how the original post was formulated. Didn't mean to troll, but I can see how it could be perceived as such. I did end up ordering the MXR M81 Bass preamp, which seems to cover my needs at a more sensible price. I don't mind people buying...

    I don't get $400 preamp pedals ...

So, I am looking for a pedal that can boost, EQ and maybe color the tone a bit, possibly also with a DI out - in other words, a "preamp pedal". A perfectly fine boost pedal should cost $100 or less, if it's a boost with 3-band EQ maybe $150. A combined boost/overdrive pedal with EQ options or a...

    Jeff Berlin

Jeff Berlin was a major influence on me when I started playing bass, not necessarily in a good way always! (I'd been better off trying to emulate players that kept things more simple...). He's always been stressing the importance of serious study (music theory, classical etudes etc.), and has...

    Preamp recommendation for SUB Stingray

Hello all, I've come to the conclusion that I need to replace the preamp on my SUB Stingray, as it doesn't have enough headroom and I am not a fan of how the EQ controls work. I have an Ibanez SR306EB (also a budget bass) which has a TMB preamp working off a single 9V battery, and it is way...

    Pros/Cons on the Ibanez sr306eb?

I found a sweet deal for a used SR306 (it was practically like new). Paid something like $300. But even at $450 (Sweetwater's price) it's a bargain, IMO. Apart from the stock tuners, which were functional but obviously budget tuners, I can find almost nothing to complain about. The outer strings...

    your favorite Modulation Multieffects Pedal?

Hotone Binary Mod fits most of your criteria, it is small, very quiet and the modulation algorithms are excellent, much better than the Zoom stuff.

The Sterling By MusicMan SUB Ray 4 and 5 Club!!!!

I got my Sub Ray 4 a couple of days ago, but did not have time to play with it properly until yesterday. I have picked up bass again after a long hiatus, and although I would not mind owning a high end instrument, I decided not to try to convince the wife that a $3-4000 investment in a bass...

    Sterling Sub Series Wiring Help

Here is the wiring diagram I have. The wires are most definitely soldered and not glued. The «glue» acts as a strain relief and insulator. If you are new to soldering, you might want to practice a little before working on your bass. Take care not to touch other wires with the hot soldering iron.

    Sterling Sub Series Wiring Help

The circuit board looks undamaged, so I would just solder them back to their original locations. Use a solder sucker or wick to clean up the solder pads first.

4-string bass recommendation ($500-600 budget, Cort GB74 or other?)

Hi, I'm getting back into bass playing after a hiatus of around 10 years. Looking for a decent and comfortable 4-string electric bass. I play fingerstyle and with a pick, not slap. I used to play a Fender Jazz Bass Plus V, but I never really bonded with it. I've decided to go back to basics and...
