Your D-800 is a very good sounding amp already. Maybe you are just wanting a little 'sag' that you get from tubes. Just add a compressor at the beginning of your chain and you should be alright. Adding another preamp is redundant and takes over the natural sound of your D-800

V4 editor is not good. Sometimes it runs and sometimes it won't open.

You already have a good pedal (dcx bass) to do all your tone shaping so I will recommend a bass chorus pedal and any DI (with compressor) of your choice. Chorus is such a nice effect that can make a bland bass tone sounds a little bit more interesting.

Brainworx svt-vr is alright. I have the mega-dual for guitar and it sounds great also.

In addition to producing different great sounds, it's photogenic as well.
