    BEST BIRTHDAY PRESENT EVER! XD

First of all, you should know the birthday boy's (my dad) history. He is a very experienced former sound contractor, and has worked in quite a few guitar shops as a guitar tech and has even co-owned his own shop. He has built great guitars for people, and all of his are custom hot-rod's that...

Has Anyone Ever Played Tricks on Band Mates during a Gig?

Our guitarist had a little Peavey combo that he always had miked at gigs. well I had the wooden box/frame of that same amp with just the faceplate and grill cloth. Once before a gig, I tossed the "fake" amp in the van under a towel (always bring a towel). when we got to the gig, he was cracking...

    Grocery store behavior.

If I acted up in public, my parents just quietly threatened to sell me into Chinese slave labor or put me out on the corner on garbage pick up day. it was quite effective! i really believed they were serious back then, now I KNOW they were!

    Grocery store behavior.

I do the same thing. If the melon in question has any flesh-eating melon worms inside, then shaking the melon will irritate them and if you listen carefully, you will hear the little guys cursing your mother. This is how you know which melon NOT to buy!

    Bass Player Pet Peeves

People who play air guitar at me. If you insist on playing air guitar, annoy the guitarist, or the drummer, he needs attention more! As a bassist, I only ask for your girlfriend and for babies to be thrown in my honor.

    Breaking things with your bass...

I lost my cool and cracked two of my lead singer's cousin's ribs when he smacked my fiance's butt and said she was cute for trying to play in a rock band. I basically just cold-cocked him in the side with my 5-string. what she ended up doing to him is a bit too graphic for TB though...

this girl at my school asked me if i can teach her bass

If I were in your shoes (hopefully you wear 11 wides or larger, or my feet will hurt in your shoes.) I would tell her exactly what you CAN teach her, and see what she thinks. Generally, if someone is inspired to play an instrument from listening to a certain person play (i.e. You) then they...

Band director wants to change me to sousaphone

Always be willing to ask directors and staff about your tone, getting a crisp tone on any brass instrument is important! a bad tone sounds like every note is coming out of your bell is covered in fur. You want naked notes! sexy, fur-less, naked tuba tones! but most importantly, TAKE FULL...

The ethnic thread - have you experienced prejuidice based on your ethnic background?

time for a spin-round: I'm 6'1", blonde hair, blue eyes, and the most harmless person in the area, and there are people that call me Skin Head, and Nazi, or killer, all because my family is German. I had never heard of prejudice against German Americans until i went to school with other kids my...

    Security

easiest solution to prevent drunken violence: keep "Hey Jude" and "Don't Stop Believin'" in your set list. who could harm another human being when they are having a hard enouigh time remembering the words to sing along!? "Why can't we be friends..."

First song you ever played on stage?

My music teacher (rap/hip-hop artist Aaron King) picked the song "Time For A Change" by Hank Levy for the band to play, and it was my first time as the bassist for the Jazz band. this song is insane, 9/4 time signature, and very bass and saxophone oriented. Mr. King always kept the bassist in...

Confession Time: Admit How You Are Different From The Bass Player Norm

-I can't play anything with Peavey or Ibanez style necks for more than a few minutes without my hands aching. -I really don't care for the sound of anything Peavey, amp or instrument. -I will never part with my simple Yamaha BB604, I WILL be buried with it if none of my future children become...
