Chrome flats on a CA coated board.... Toooons of squeak whenever i did any kind of bend for a week or 2. Went away after the board and strings broke into each other.

As i was saying, a luthier WILL cost more than factory if you want a hard to produce copy. Not cheaper or easier, but more expensive and a wait time, then it may be just be the shell of what you wanted.

Say, if a company sells a bass, they are getting as much profit they can recieve after paying as little as they can for materials. That works when you make 1000 of them. A luthier making 1, will pay more for the actual materials, and most likely not have a cnc mill to cookie cutter it out...

take your time on the frets, as removing wood with them isnt desirable. chunked out the lines on my first fretless conversion, but the board was filled with CA glue anyway.

I'm very happy with my 1st build. Plays great, Sounds great, but I shoulda trippled the time I spent on finish. Spent a long time on here trying to suck in as much info as possible.

I built a headless cigar box 25.5" scale bass, and even with a spacer the strap is at the 19th fret, and it dives like a career swimmer.. i need an extender like that for better balance.

i would like a copy of "this bass." You know, the $5000 one. I would also like hand picked wood, better pickups, better preamp, and some custom inlays. Oh, by the way, i expect the project to cost only that of the lumber, and a 2 week build turnaround. What.. a nice (haha) Fender cookie...

All 3 of my neck pockets have been drilled out and then carved out by hand. I have a router and table now, but am dreading using them for this ^ reason. This forum is a great learning tool. Very nice building btw.

1 degree can make a substantial difference on many parts of an instrument that is to play correctly. Your tolerences and desire for extra hand blistering work will detirmine if you like to build nice instruments.

Love looking back on this amazing instrument. sounds as good as it looks. A 32" scale fretted 4 with that body shape would be really nice and chunky. Thank you for great inspiration!

The apartment im staying in is above a cabnet/floor shop. They do stuff for 13million dollar mansions in my small mountian town. I'm getting to know em and may start working for them soon. My chair is on figured oak flooring, while the cabnets are flamed/birdseye maple to show off. Love good...
