Why do so many players love flats?

Play flats on my fretless basses & tried a set on a fretted one. Like it there, too. Will try nylon tape wound on my 5-string fretless next time…

That one random song your cover band does that nobody else does.

Probably the most unknown song our cover band does is "Out Of Our Minds" by Melissa Auf der Maur. :-)

What was your first bass amp and how bad was it?

My first bass amp was a self-made 20 watts Edwin amp (actually a DIY guitar amp set, which I combined with a bass speaker & built a box around it). When I started playing in a band I needed something bigger & louder respectively & bought a used SMS 150 watts conbo… Nowadays I mainly play using...

I’m pretty sure it’s a Japanese one from the 1980´s :-) Go for it!

Here‘s my new baby  It seems to be made in Japan in the 1990’s from Korean parts. Feels great & sounds great, but to be honest I didn‘t expect anything else from a Maniac Almost the complete family; one further Maniac residing in our holiday home… ;)

    Bass Maniac by Tune?

Thanks! It looks to me as if it's the same catalogue I got together with my first Maniac (pearl white fretless TB-02PJ/B-A) which I bought used back in 1993. Still one of my favourites...

I know that the modern Korean ones come with "external" strap buttons; but all of my 1980's Japanese Maniacs have the pre-installed system. :-)

But the Maniacs have "internal" straplocks, thus the outer part is inside the body. In order to use the Schallers (which I use on most of my basses & guitars) you'd need to fill the hole first & then screw the new strap lock on...

Maybe these could fit, at least they do on my fretless Maniac: https://shop.warwick.de/de/ersatzteile-fuer-instrumente/framus-ersatzteile/strap-buttons-straplocks/framus-warwick-warwick-style-security-lock-systems However, I'm not a big fan of those, as I find them mechanically questionable...
