Oh yeah....I use a hex T wrench on mine.
This way I don't have to detune the strings when I need an adjustment.
That's a great idea! I'll have to grab one.
Also, with the preamp board settings, I just did what I had done with my TWB-53: pickups to full and notch filter off.
I even got a chance to do a little initial play through with the new one. Direct in through a dirty channel on my board out of practice, but it still plays and sounds great!
Not sure if thus has been mentioned in the thread before, but another reason that I love Tune basses. I didn't know this until I already had a Tune, but all of the 6 string bass parts on the 'Sailing the Seas of Cheese' album by Primus were recorded with a Tune 6 string. Apparently, Claypool had his Carl Thompson 6 string fretless being built at the time, but it wasn't completed in time to record. He's even playing the Tune in Bill and Ted's Bogus Journey!
Since his Carl Thompson 'Rainbow bass' only has a single soap bar bridge pick up, if you copy that on a Tune, you can get pretty close to a classic Primus bass tone.

Hey everyone, I recently purchased this Tune Bass Maniac. In fact, so recently I don't even have it yet. I was looking for a 4 string fretless and found this one on GC. There wasn't much info given about it, and I didn't really know much of anything about Tune, but after reading through this thread and some other info I decided to give it a shot.
It looks like it was made in Japan with Alembic pickups. I haven't found much info about this particular setup, but according to the Tune catalog on Vintaxe, the TB-03 PJ-A was the "Alembic Pickup Version". The TB-02 was the "Original Pickup Version" and the TB-01 was the "EMG Pickup Version".
Anyway, it's supposed to arrive here in a few days, hopefully in ok shape. I'll post an update with some photos when it arrives!

Quick question. Anybody have an idea what material Korean TUNE basses frets are made of? Nickel or steel? Just looking to pick a string set that won't chew the frets up.
I have no idea.
But I've had stainless strings on my fretted for a while and I see no appreciable wear.
My fretless Bass Maniac arrived today, thankfully it's in fantastic condition, beautiful yellowed pearl white.
But then how does it sound? Well, put it this way, it made my other basses sound like trash hahaha! I don't know if that's a good thing or not, but it sounds phenomenal. I absolutely love it!

That's good to hear. I've got a custom gauge set of D'Addario ProSteels coming (eventually). Fret Nation is still waiting on the 0.028w. Was mainly wondering if I should have ordered nickel instead.
Also, thinking of redoing the preamp/wiring in my TWB-63. I want to be able to run the pickups in series and I can't cleanly do this with the current preamp/wiring. I tried running the pickups in series into just the neck preamp pins in my TWB-53 and damn! So much fuller and punchier, but I didn't leave it like that because I don't want to lose functionality. And since I don't want to modify the preamp board, I can just put a new preamp in and do the pickup wiring however I want.
Thinking of getting an Aguilar OBP-3 preamp kit with the mid selection push-pull pot. Then a 250K blend pot and 25K volume push-pull put for series/parallel switching and I'll have the best of everything without having to change any pot mounting holes.

Yup. Used to be huge into Primus when I started playing. Playing a six string in a heavy band, people in the crowd always saying "play some Primus", and we never would. So we got it all out in one night. Years ago, my band did a whole Primus set. Here's a bit with my Yamaha TRB 6II.
I've had that ADA for years. I put old stock Telefunken smooth plate tubes in it years ago and it's perfect for the way I play. I love the sweet tube tones I can get out of it and the ability to have different patches for different basses. I love the mid control of it.
First of all: Congrats! A wonderful bass in a marvellous condition!
It seems to be a TB-02PJ-A with replacement pickups.
Enjoy playing it & have lots of fun!!!
Just one thought: Even though the black strings look quite cool may I suggest changing the strings to flat wounds? This probably would save the fingerboard...
Here's a pic of my fretless TB-02PJ/B-A (with phenolic resin fingerboard & the additional piezo pickups in the bridge) which was a birthday present to myself some 27 years ago...

However, I'm not a big fan of those, as I find them mechanically questionable (they tend to seize), whereas I never had any problems with the original Tune strap locks.
Nice playing, and the bass sounds great! Got to ask though, why did your significant other kick you to the couch?
I'm partial to Schaller Straplocks myself.

Haha. This is in my basement studio. There is a pull down screen right were I'm sitting in this video with a ceiling mounted projector above the couch because we also use this area for a home theatre. My wife likes laying on the couch to watch things. Great sound down there with two pairs of reference monitors and a 500W 15" subwoofer!
But the Maniacs have "internal" straplocks, thus the outer part is inside the body.
In order to use the Schallers (which I use on most of my basses & guitars) you'd need to fill the hole first & then screw the new strap lock on...
