I hate the terms "back" and "front" pickup.

I know that's what they're talking about, I do understand that. But this thread is about nitpicking, so I'm chiming in on incorrect terminology. (The tone knob also reduces the amount of bass) "Come on" yourself. :-/

I hate the terms "back" and "front" pickup.

I don't get confused with front and back, I know what people mean, but I prefer bridge, (middle), neck. It's more correct and more clear. (Incidentally, I checked the back of my bass and there are no pickups there.) What REALLY annoys me is people talking about turning the tone up "full". There...

I hate the terms "back" and "front" pickup.

One that annoys me is people calling a bass drum a kick drum. It's a bass drum, kick is a more recent slang word that has unfortunately become more accepted.

    New bass day!! Rickenbacker!!!

I'm just here to read the comments from people who need to tell us they don't like Rickenbackers... Congratulations, I love my 4003s.

Am I asking too much from the drummer?

I'm surprised at most of the replies here. It is very odd to not carpool over such a distance. I wouldn't want to be in a band with people who couldn't get on outside the bandroom. To me attitude and personality are the first things I look at when considering potential bandmates.

What songs do you feel NEED a 5 string bass?

Eb is the original key - I guess it works better for the horns? And the bass was played on a synth on the record. But if you do play it in E on a four-string (and many bands do), or you detune down to Eb, you're still not getting the b7 note at the end of every second bar.

A band I left... felt like unpaid work.

After seeing some other posts suggesting one should be paid to play other people's music I thought I would post about my recent experience in a band I was in for about a year. The style of music was from a province in the home country of the other two members. All the songs were covers although...

    Slapping and singing

Larry Graham is a good one to watch for singing while slapping (I like it from about 2:00 in) .... although that wouldn't help with those covers.

What are good beginner slap songs?

Yes, "Thank you falettin' me be mice elf" by Larry Graham of Sly and the Family Stone is a good starter - wasn't it THE FIRST "thumpin' an' pluckin'" song?

    New Rickenbacker sighting in USA

Sorry, I meant 4004s. I was thinking of 5 strings I guess! The headstock of the 4004/5 looks quite big but I guess that can't be helped. I do like the body - no plastic or metal clogging up the place, just nice wood. The shape of the body does seem to be a slightly different shape than the...

    New Rickenbacker sighting in USA

Have you tried www.rickresource.com ? I seem to recall discussions about 4005s there recently.

Will somebody please tell me some good basses for punk.

I would suggest a Rickenbacker, not only because I love them but because they have a distinctive growl which suits punk. Glenn Matlock of Sex Pistils (before Sid) and Lemmy of Motorhead used them.
