    EMG JX Problem

sounds like my recent experience - in my case it turns out the "connector board" (part number EMG 157c) was bad - had a short in it somewhere!!! i did not have a meter handy to test, so I spent quite some time being befuddled by the symptoms... THE FIX: try plugging one of the pups directly...

    30/32 flats/rounds ?? ??

I've just acquired a 32 inch scale bass (strung with flats) and a 30 (actually 28!!!) inch scale bass strung with roundwounds. The medium scale bass sounds great, and feels real easy (thanks to the smooth flatwounds) but I need to have one of each for recordings, and figured the longer scale...

    Why DON'T you play a short-scale?

I have small hands, and have played 35-odd years mostly on short-scales... Beatle Bass, Rickenbacker 3000, various customs. Last few years I've noticed they just don't record as well as I like. Something pretty subtle, but definite! Found that for me, a 32 inch scale length is the PERFECT...

    Production Medium Scale Bass Guitars

Had a Fender MIJ 32 inch P-bass (with very nice birdseye neck!) back in the mid-nineties. A decade later I had a couple of very nice custom-shop mediums made in Europe (a five and a 4-string) and then an Aerodyne - but starting over from zero now with a very nice (like new) twenty-year-old...

IMO, Ishibashi is 100% good. I've been very happy with a couple of mail-order ( internet) bass purchases there

They still sell "ground-wounds"?? I'd stay well clear of those (metal splinters, ouch)

    A $1,000 bass vs. a $4,000 bass: What's the Difference?

+1! IF you really need something special (certain scale length combined with certain neck profile combined with certain nut width combined with certain electronics, etc) to get you your own ideal "playability and sound" then it's well worth the extra couple of grand to get something tailor-made...

    Official Mesa/Boogie 400,400+ Club

I don't have any pics ( or a 400 anymore) but I do remember mine very very fondly. I'm shocked that they are out of production - Aren't these amps the mainstay of Paul McCartney's gig rig?
