    The Fifths Tuning Club

I'm intrigued by this set. Have you (or anyone else) tried these on a 34" scale bass guitar? If so, do they work well?

Blown away by the bass tone

Wow! Thanks for clarifying. Those are two of my favorite albums, both of them tasteful and sophisticated in so many ways - composition, playing, arranging, etc. - and I particularly love the bass guitar playing on them. It doesn't surprise me in the least to learn that it was the same player...

Not sure who played this but it's fantastic. I've seen both Herbie Flowers and Dave Richmond credited: A similar, lovely sound:

    The Fifths Tuning Club

I'm not really big into experimenting with strings, and I have no experience with the Curt Mangans, but I'd think that the Kaliums would be worth a try when it comes to nickel roundwounds. I'm using a set of Kalium bass hybrids on my Ric and a custom set of Rotosounds on my jazz bass. I've...

    The Fifths Tuning Club

Hello - I’ve been experimenting with fifths for a little while in the typical c-g-d-a, sub-cello tuning (coming from using the guitar craft tuning on guitar for a bit), first by switching over my ‘62 avri jazz bass with a custom set from Rotosound RS66 singles, then having a ‘78 Rickenbacker...

    Songs with bass 'chorus' effect.

Sure, I get that, although the end result in this particular instance sounds less like chorus to me and more like a gritty, clavinet kind of sound...

Maybe you're thinking of that subtle chorus/vibrato on the bass at the beginning of Starship Trooper? I've wondered what that was, whether it was chorusing through multitracking or use of a leslie speaker or the like...

I believe that it's pretty well documented that the effect on Roundabout is Chris Squire doubling the bass line on Steve Howe's ES-175.

Ah, yes - forgot about 24 Hours. As for Insight, I do hear chorus pretty clearly on that Peel sessions version, but when I listen to the Unknown Pleasures version, it's not as clear that I'm hearing chorusing vs multi-tracking or some other studio effect. There's so much subtle atmospherics in...

Definitely with New Order, but did he use chorus much with Joy Division? Outside of some of the late work - Atmosphere, perhaps - I don't hear a lot of chorus, although some of the open string drones definitely have a chorus-y quality...

Barry Adamson used chorus quite a bit on many tracks with Magazine and The Bad Seeds (I seem to recall hearing it quite a bit on Your Funeral... My Trial, and parts of Kicking Against The Pricks and From Her to Eternity)
