Simple, but hypnotic bass lines

Sting and the Police were masters of this - Walkin on the moon, message in a bottle, Canary in a coal mine, ...
This stuff was actually the first thing to pop into my mind on the topic:
Thomas Mapfumo's bassist at the time , was a friggin ROCK. I had the great fortune of catching this lineup of the Lion's band in the early 90s.
One of the things that mesmerized me about his playing is that he seemed to be standing completely still all night long, I might have caught him tapping his foot maybe once.
You don't get to see much of him in this particular video - but you know .... if you dig Robbie Shakespeare , you'll love Allan Amitayi (if you weren't already hip).
[Also .... completly face-melting guitar solo by the late great Ashton "Sugar" Chiweshe starting around 5:20 mark]

I love the Zen of a simple, repetitive bassline. Probably goes back to my early days playing AC/DC and Judas Priest in bar bands. Lately I've been enjoying playing along to 70's disco songs for that same reason: Groove Line by Heatwave and Le Freak by Chic are two examples.
