    No more pick jokes

It all depends on the music. Can you imagine James Jamerson with a pick? Can you imagine Chris Squire with fat fingers? Go with your gut, and what best matches the music. Good luck!

Why does TalkBass love the P Bass so much?

I don't know. Why does my wife like cats so much? Anyway, There's just something authentic about it. And talk about consistency...like they say, it just works. Most basses play better, most basses are more versatile, but a P is in a class of its own.

    Michael Bolton...sheesh!

    Slapping Accuracy

I was able to develop a fairly reasonable slap technique over the years. My issue is what to play. I have a difficult time creating decent bass lines. I will listen to licks that I like, learn them, and not have them in my head when I need them. Maybe I'm too old, maybe I'm too Swedish...

5 string P basses? Are they a good choice?

My main bass is a 2009 MIA Fender P - 5 string. I love it. It took me a while to get used to the string spacing, but I would get another one today if mine disappeared.

    Why does this happen...

Thats a weird situation. My default is fire the drummer, but maybe have a long chat with the sound guy..Tell him "I will unplug my mic if you don't balance my vocals behind the lead" . I would still fire the drummer though.

    Playing reggae

I've learned that rushing the beat kills the reggae. I learned to play slightly behind the beat. It brings a sense of ease to the song and helps you not overplay. I love the reggae sound. Here is a short YouTube from SBL on how to get that tone. Good luck! Sounds like a lot if fun...

    So I Might Be Done…

This is in the extreme side, but I remember whenever I watch the Olympics, there seem to ALWAYS be stories of amazing athletes that have overcome incredible physical traumas. I know that they have trainers and work a zillion hours per day, but they are also now some of the best athletes in...
