Did Phil Kubicki Make Fender Style Bass Bodies ?

Yeah. I have an all-Kubicki J bass. Also, I have his early 80s catalog somewhere. Pretty sure it has bodies of all Fender types.

NBD - Carvin LB-50 (You Heard Right)...

I had/have a white LB50. It didn't really do anything for me, so I gave it to my cousin on semi-permanant family loan. If he sells it, he owes me the first $450 of whatever he gets for it. Otherwise, I doubt I'll ask him for it back. I probably would have liked it more if I'd taken the time...

    the one(s) that got away...

It wasn't really all that special, but it always bugs me I didn't get it for what they were asking. It was a Fender Jaco that somehow made it out of the factory with a slab rosewood board. The orig owner put the pickguard and all the jazz bass hardware on it, and it looked so slick. I don't...

Warmoth jazz bass vs. mid-range jazz bass

I put a Phil Kubicki P-Bass neck on a Warmoth body with the 2Tek bridge. It's a really nice bass. The finish is really nice. Everything was lined up and routed well. Setup was pretty easy. Didn't need to shim the neck at all. I think they did a good job on it.

    Quiet Amp for Home Use

I have an Ampeg B15R that I just love. Definitely quiet enough for home use. Also, IK Multimedia's SVX through a pair of open-backed headphones is great. I can sit an play bass while my wife is watching television, and still hear her if she says something.

MESA BOOGIE AMPS AND CABS your opinion

I just picked up a Mesa D180. Such a killer amp. Sweet, and growls like a bear.

What kind of a bassist do you want to be?

I'm a guitar player who has always been totally in love with bass. I would have played string bass as a kid if I had been taller. Ron Carter, Charlie Mingus, and James Jamerson have always been my heroes, ever since I was a kid. I want to play beautiful bass lines, the kind where you can hum...

Playing bass at jams when guitars use capos

Ah, well, it's not exactly that simple. I used to wonder why a clarinet played a Bb when you told them to play a C, and why they just couldn't adapt. It just doesn't work. Open chords on a guitar sound different than chords in other positions. You use a capo so you can still play those...

    High-quality preamp for recording

I can't give you a comparison, but the UA610 is a great bass DI, and just gorgeous on flatwounds. I don't use it very often as a mic pre. Its sound is a little specialized, so it's not that often that I reach for that when micing. If you're looking to mic an amp, there are a lot of...

First Time Recording From Amp - Bit Of Advice Please!

Bring the cab. It won't hurt to have a little more flexibility.

    Amp stands?

But what if you have an endorsement gig with a milk factory? Are you seriously going to tell them you won't use their crates?

    Amp stands?

For death metal, we kill both the goats and the virgins.

    Amp stands?

I'm working on an audiophile grade milk crate right now. It's made out of an all-natural high density medium mass polymer, mixed with goats blood and the tears of virgins. It decouples your nodal interactions from the high stress modes of the atmosphere, and neutralizes the gravitational...

    Mesa D-180 Master Volume Mod

I agree that the mids should be very far up in comparison to the treble and bass knobs. It's a standard Fender tone stack, which basically just adjusts how scooped you want your tone to be. The EQ points on the D-180 are the same as the S.O.B., so its not really optimized for bass. The pull...

    Mesa D-180 Master Volume Mod

I haven't plugged a guitar into it yet. The D-180 is actually very similar to the S.O.B. of the same era. The S.O.B. is a grossly undderrated guitar amplifier, mostly due to the Limit knob. The Limit knob works the same as the D-180 MV, although the S.O.B. still retains a traditional pre-PI...
