    Does this ever stop?

I think it's because the insinuation is that bass should be felt and not heard, or some such nonsense. Personally, I like to hear my bass (within reason and without sacrificing a good live mix). Both are possible.

Radial J48 vs Countryman Type85 vs VT Bass DI

The option of going ampless (or in case my amp dies mid set) is exactly why I decided on a VT bass deluxe. I actually really dig the "rig in a box" thing they have going. Sounds really good to my ears. So, I vote VT Bass DI.

Best Strings for Fender American Deluxe jazz

I have used Ernie Ball strings on my American Deluxe Jazz in the past but thought they died too quickly. I have used Chromes and liked them a lot, but recently decided that I needed some of the overtones only found in rounds. I recently put on a set of GHS Pressurewounds and they sound...

Love my passive Jazz Bass But want more volume out of it?

Sounds to me like you need more speakers! Generally, more speakers = more volume. A preamp pedal may color your tone, and if you like your tone, why mess with a good thing?

    Bass pedal setup

Suggest a distortion? Well, I followed advice on this board and got a Darkglass b3k. It's epic. I'm seriously in love with my tone and get tons of compliments (but I play in a pretty heavy band, YMMV).

    Bass pedal setup

Nope sorry, your most recent one (AMP----DI---- (Chorus)-----DIST-----COMP----TUNER----wireless-----BASS). This is the order that makes the most sense to me. But experimenting never hurt!

    Bass pedal setup

I know I'm nitpicking a bit here, but I think you really should think of your chain the other way around. Your signal starts with your fingers on the bass and goes from there. Your pedal order in the previous post is how I would do it though. You might also want to try different flavours of...

    Should I change factory strings?

If the sound of the bass isn't right to you, you can try. No need really unless the strings are old. Personally, I would - but I've experimented with lots of strings and have found some I really like. Generally, flatwound strings sound darker but feel smooth, nickle rounds are a bit rougher...

And I know it's been said all over the place a thousand times, but you won't be disappointed with the B3K. It takes a bit of time to learn its subtleties, but once you're familiar with it, it really rocks. I'm not sure you want a VT bass, you already have an MXR preamp that gets a fair...

Haha! Jimmy M's got it right. ;) The Ampeg sound really does rock. I just like having the option of getting that big sound at low or high volumes!

No problem at all man! I just mention I'm a finger player because the OP said he liked the description of my tone and said he plays with his fingers. I wanted him to know I do as well! Pick, fingers, it's all good!

I play only fingerstyle as well. I usually play close to the bridge with the bridge pickup either favored or solo'd. This to me allows the articulation to come through as well as emphasize the overdrive (I assume it's a mids thing). To me, the real magic to the tone I have right now is the...

Upgrading my amp, looking for some informed answers.

I think you're going to get a few replies telling you that your guitarists are too loud, but if you play heavy loud music, your going to need an amp with some guts to keep up. I don't see any problem pairing that amp/cab (except that a 210 may not give you the volume you want - you might...

I'll throw in my 2 cents here. I searched for years for "my tone", a sound that was big, meaty, growly and aggressive. I play through a GK 1001rb-ii and an Avatar B410 but strangely, I only began to achieve it when I started trying to get a big sound at low volumes. What I mean is, I noticed the...

    Question about In-ear Monitors

I could be wrong but I think the Monster beats might not be ideal since they probably have such an eq character. Probably lots of bass. Obviously you can use whatever you like but for me, I prefer my IEM's to have a flatter, more "monitor" like response. I use the SE 215's and find them to...

    Official Darkglass Club: Part II

It's almost certainly power. Try it with a one spot. Also, are you playing with any other pedals in your chain? Sometimes another pedal can be the culprit. I had noise originally since I had a boss micro br in my chain (for recording). It's a digital pedal and didn't like sharing power with the...

    My HORRIBLE Alleva-Coppolo experience...

When you say the purpose of the OP was to distort, that sounds to me like you're clearly trying to make it seem like he was simply making trouble. I don't agree with you, but you are clearly free to think what you want. As far as having ramifications for small luthiers, OF COURSE it should...

    My HORRIBLE Alleva-Coppolo experience...

Come on. The OP has been very reasonable and level headed in this thread (even though some others haven't). He seems to have tried in various ways to deal with the situation privately (hence the pdf of emails - has anyone requested those?) and feels like he has no choice but to go public. The OP...

    My HORRIBLE Alleva-Coppolo experience...

I feel much the same way as others in this thread. I don't know Jauqo and certainly mean him no disrespect, but whether or not this will hurt AC as a business is irrelevant IMO. The issue is whether Jimmy will fix the mess the OP is dealing with like a decent human being. I've read a few posts...

E and B strings lack definition

It's what I use from time to time. Others may argue it's not the best for your strings, though.

You could also try giving the B and E strings a wipe down with alcohol. Might zing 'em up a bit.

E and B strings lack definition

It's less to do with where your bass knob is set and more with its relation to both mid knobs. If you like your bass at noon, try boosting both mids up to at least 1:00 (and maybe more - experiment. I find low mids generally add punch/growl and high mids add clarity but that's also dependent on...

E and B strings lack definition

Could be. Couldn't hurt to play around with the pickup height a bit and see if it helps. From your description it seems like your strings might simply be dead. Do you play on the B and E more frequently? Maybe a fresh set will solve your woes. I stand by the whole "cut back the lows" thing...

    Saying goodbye...what's a good way?

Depends entirely on the situation and the person. Sometimes quick and brutal is best, other times a meeting is in order. Sorry that I'm not helping much.

E and B strings lack definition

Try reversing your EQ strategy for bass and low mids. Roll the bass back to 9:00 and bump those low mids to at least 12. Any better? To me, "boom" = too much low end / bass frequency.

    B3K model question

I say get it anyway. I have a US B3K and it's really, really good - seriously! It's hyped up a lot around here but for good reason, quite simply it's the best OD I've ever heard on bass. If you're looking for serious raunch, it might not be for you (considering it really excels at lighter OD)...

The Official Dirty / Grindy Preamp Pedal SHOOTOUT - with over 150 clips!

If you're going to run a darkglass into he VT bass, try setting the VT bass fairly flat (character at noon, low and mids at 12:30 and highs at 9:30) with low drive - like around 9:00. I find this to really "wake up" my b3k!

Good deal on a post 2008 American standard 5 string Jazz?

Thanks Woodsbass. I think I am going to try to meet up with the seller to try it out somehow. It's not often you see the specific bass you've been craving turn up locally (well, pretty close). Now all I need is a tort pickguard...;)

Good deal on a post 2008 American standard 5 string Jazz?

Nice to see some local guys here! I thought as much, figured the price was a bit too good to be true for one of those sought-after post 2008 models. I wonder though, 550 still seems pretty good for an American Jazz, especially a 5. Decisions, decisions!

Good deal on a post 2008 American standard 5 string Jazz?

Hi all, sorry for another one of THOSE threads. There is someone not too far away from me selling a (supposedly) American standard jazz 5 for 550.00. First of all, do you all think this is decent? Secondly, do you notice anything off about these pictures? I was told it's "about 3 years old"...
