Love the sansamp VTDI. With low gain, "bite" off and "speaker sim" on, you can make it transparent except that it rolls off hard at about 5-6k - just like a fridge would. This gets me a great sound straight out of the pedal board to the board, and I can tweek the amp on stage without affecting...

Loooove the VTDI! You can make your signal bright without making fuzz sound fizzy.

I wouldn't bypass the preamp on the amp. Set your head as flat as you can, and then set your DI to get the sound you want. DI goes to the house, amp becomes a monitor. That way, once the show is rolling, you can adjust your amp as you need to to hear yourself best without affecting the house.

I've got the same head, and I've ran it through lots of cabs. A second 410 will get you louder, but you should be able to get a full and rich sound from what you've got. At high gain settings, little bits of clank can get distorted and amplified easier than the rest of the string's tone...

Usually I'd agree on the top-mounts, but this guy is going to be first in the chain - so patch cord from the bass goes into the "in." It would be awkward to run the big cable though the other stuff to get to a top jack. Completely OT: I bet you'd have to ask a lot of people in Hong Kong before...

Except for a couple jealous guitar players, nobody gives me grief about my pedalboard, including a preamp, in the signal chain before the DI. The pre-amp is necessary to tame some of the lows and highs from the dirt pedals before going to the board.

You're going to outgrow your 20w amp very quickly. Consider a used head. The new generation of Class D heads don't need to be hooked up to a load and are light enough to carry around just to use as a preamp if you wish. For a preamp pedal - VTDI does everything I want.

I have a Geezer P in my Precision and love it. You're going to have a great sounding bass! But, the Geezers sound like a Fender (which IMO is a good thing!) and, as you know, a T-Bird is neck-through with 2 humbuckers; I'm not sure how close a bolt-on with PJs is going to get you.

BDDI was my sound for a couple years. Looking at Sansamp's SVT setting, that would be REALLY dirty with my bass. Have you had a chance to listen to what's being sent to the board? If you've got access to a board or a headphone amp that you can listen to your tone out of the DI through headphones...

Chromes on a bird with a pick is my favorite sound. They add a punch to your sound that really drives classic rock well. AC/DC sounds glorious with flats. But... I don't use them with my current metal band. Stainless rounds seem to be the standard for a lot of metal, and flats can't do the same...

What distortion are you thinking of? There's a whole bunch now that come with clean blends.

The B3 has everything you want, including a DI. MS60B is on my board. Most of the effects are ok(modulation, eq,), some suck (dirt.) The octaver, chorus and eq functions are quite good, just the tuner is worth half the cost. After you've had it a while, you'll know which effects you use more...

I looked at a whole bunch of overdrives/distortions to give me an "out front" sound. Turns out that the answer was a GEB7 that I bought on a whim for $30. A small boost on everything above 1k, and leave the low frequencies alone. It's not the most glamorous or "cool" pedal, but it works great!
