So... I got fired today (warning: long)

Yeah, when on my first band, we got a prize which was a recording session. But said session was set on October 6 2006, that very day was the reunion concert of my favorite band, which I had tickets since February. So I told them I could not go. (The concert was 8 hours away, my favorite has not...

So... I got fired today (warning: long)

Honestly, I have never been fired of a band. But I have been on the other side, having to tell someone to "not come again" or just replace him/her because they were not showing to the rehearsals. Also I know a lot of frinends in that situation. I can say (imo) there are like two branches...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I went to try some (combo) amps yesterday. I dont remember who said something like "they dont release the fine print because the people buying it dont care" (and i am honestly too lazy to go thru all the pages) I wouldn't say they dont care, but I would say " they dont know better". And...

Is th old Laney HCM120B any good?

Went yesterday to some shops to try some amps. One thing is sure: I cant go smaller than 15 inches, anything smaller feels like playing thru a guitar amp (imo). I just haven't decided which 15" combo I will pick. (I tried some 10 in, and the fender Rumble 200 which has a 15". ) The difference...

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

Was on the store, tried the Fender Rumble 200 instead (It was the smallest amp they had, besides some tiny 10w ones) OMG, it is "almost" perfect, as I only loved the clean sound of it (the overdrive and the other options were not as nice IMO), i went with an Spectrum Analizer. And its 15"...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

What I meant since the very beginning is that knowing what pad your signal is going thru, is way better than not knowing. Just by looking at this spec sheet, you can notice that even when the 2x10 and 4x10 cabinets are louder, the 1x15 goes lower. I am not discussing the tone, I am just...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

It depends... sometimes you want the lower end for the bass and just the attack sound of the kick

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

You are right, we humans unfortunately can not hear really low frequencies. BUT we can feel them :) . I personally love that. E.g. The equipment they use on shows like Roger Waters' the Wall tour from 2012 (BTW the documentary made no justice to it) they were using infrasounds, it is a greater...

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

It must be a frequency that is getting too intense due to the dimensions of the church... a parametric eq should help.

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I am referring to single speaker amps. Arrangements are a whole other subject.

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

Thats the best advice ever. I wanted to get one of those because it is almost pocket money... I do like reading the cold facts because honestly you can not never try the amp with "real life conditions" on the store.... Thanks blubass

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Thanks ahc, I was trying to be as simple as possible, there is always exceptions to the rules, i was trying to explain the behaviour of longitudinal waves

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Is just that people are not listening to that low E on the amp but the harmonics And the first harmonic, is and octave... Which means if you are playing 41 hertz on an amp that can not produce the you will hear instead the first harmonic: 82 hertz And as every sound we play thru our basses has...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Hehe. Hi monsterthompson.... lets say they both can vibrate 41 times per second (the frequency of low E) But the Amplitude (aka Volume) depends on HOW MUCH air they can move... just like hand fan, the more air you move the better

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I am not trying to offend anybody, English aint my native language. I am a foreign student, currently on MIT. And I play. So, when you go the lab every piece of equipment has manuals with very detailed info about its components and their behaviour. And it just drives me crazy that musical...

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

Yeah, also playing on a church, will give enough room for the waves to resonate. For example, low E wavelength is around 8.5 meters :)

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I do know that, that is why started this thread. The thing is, the way they put it ,kind of implies so (even when they are talking about floor noise compared to the sound of the amp) I will quote my opening post:

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I put that example because I wanted to make a point... obviusly an 8 inch speaker wont perform those frequncies so well as a 15 inch. Yet, they do show the db level (which is always recorded with a mic a meter away, amp at its maximum)

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

Interesting, do you think it is related to the frequencies that are exalted on each amp? Which ampeg do you use with your band? Thanks for your answer slobake :)
  24. StringGirl

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

That's the thing, bass amps do not generally show frequncy response plots... they totally should, even if there is room for deviation (no two basses will sound exactly the same even when they are the same model) but there should include the average of what is expected to perform well.
  25. StringGirl

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

But if you want to seriously compare two amps, comparing that data is basic. Reading your responses, I have come with (what I think is) THE ACTUAL REASON: Quality Control. If you buy any equipment, and whn you try it, it does not match the frequency responce they said it reached, you could ask...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I do know that you need more energy to make bigger waves (low frequency) what bothers me is that they just say "yeah, all our amp can handle these frequencies" but, as the ampeg image i posted, they say "unweighted ", it would be easy to produce a frequency sweep and just show the results...

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Thanks Bholder, thats exactly what I mean E.g. According to the Ampeg page, their Ba108 (8 inch speaker) can produce 20 hertz.... even if it does, it wont sound as loud as higher frequncies Ampeg Ba108 specifications by StringGirl posted Mar 10, 2017 at 4:53 PM

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

Thanks for answering matt, still I do not found that info in most pages... e.g. When you are checking out on the "compare" feature of most online stores, the frequency range is not showed.... I have only found it on the manual of the amps... which means you have to go and download the pdf of...

Ampeg Ba110 vs Fender Rumble 40

Both are nice 40w practice amps, which one would you consider better and why? *I have to buy a new practice amp, and I just wonder why no amps specs show what is the lowest note it can produce :O Greetings

why do amp specs never show what is lowest note they can perform?

I just wonder why no amps specs show what is the lowest note it can produce E.g. A 10 watt amp can not produce sounds under 200 hz properly. Physically, the bigger the speaker, the better it will "disturb" the air genarating this huge vibrations we call "low frequency sounds" Studio monitors...

Is th old Laney HCM120B any good?

Hi folks, This is my very first post inTB, but I have been reading your advice for a couple of years now... I have been playing guitar since 2003 and bass since 2012. So far i had used a Peavey Max 126 amp (tiny 10w amp, sold it for 25 bucks) I want to buy an Ampeg ba112 or similar, but so far...
