    Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

Wasn't planning on it, but ended up with a btb7 and btb747 this weekend

    Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

got some cosmo hardware for the 1606. Pretty stoked on it

    Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

I'd say the aguilar is definitely louder, which is a nice feature for me switching between active/passive. I would also say it's more transparent and doesn't really color the tone too much, boosting lows and mids sound very dynamic, where as the ibanez I feel sounds a bit compressed and kind of...

    Ibanez BTB Club, Part 2!

i recently picked up this 1606dtf. What an incredible instrument. Also came with an Aguilar obp-3 preamp installed which the buyer did not mention (bonus). The playability, balance, sound and looks are all fantastic. I love this thing

    Who played Rickenbackers with flatwounds?

Phil lynott on the first few thin Lizzy albums. Also supposedly Al cisneros uses flats, but I've had a hard time confirming.

    Dingwall/Multi-Scale LIGHT Strings

Also kalium (circle k) makes a 114. And you can make a custom set of whatever gauge you want

    Dingwall/Multi-Scale LIGHT Strings

The D and G strings from any normal long scale set are still long enough to work, so you can make your own hybrid set by just swapping those out for something lighter You could also try going super light with paysons Drop D set. The 110 may seem less floppy if you do the full light set/ raise...

Been away for some years.. after selling all gear and bass. Back and wanting some thoughts/experience on amps.

I've heard great things about the new quilter bass block. After using a ton of different class D, solid state and tube heads I've settled on the orange terror. I have the older 1000 watt and the newer 500 watt. They're both excellent. The 1000 watt is ridiculously loud and has endless clean...

Old injury combined with increasing age

Light weight basses with strap buttons located to the back or lower horn can help get the bass into an almost vertical position, leaving both shoulders and wrists in a kind of neutral playing position. I've had luck playing thunderbirds when dealing with quervains tenosynovitis in my fretting hand.

    Offical B.C. Rich Club!

Here are a few I used to own. Both were mahogany neck/body wings, dot inlays and less paul style wiring. I eventually modified each with neal moser harness. Still sad I got rid of that mockingbird

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

The babicz design is meant to replace only the bridge saddles and use the stock tailpiece, so if the stock bridge has tail lift the babicz will not help anything. Has anyone used the babicz saddles? I've always been curious but they're kinda pricey and rarely ever pop up used.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

The Hipshot clovers are actually too long/stick out really far, but that's purely an aesthetic preference. They make mini clovers that people put on thunderbird basses, but they're hard to source and very expensive. The Y tuners also happen to be a few grams lighter than the clovers. For the...

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I had to route a little bit out. The neck and toaster were sourced separately, but they are both from late 80s/early 90s and both super hot, the neck is 13k and the bridge is about 14k. Sounds very heavy. Also has Hipshot ultralites on it and an allparts bridge.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Here's my 2011 4003 at practice last night I've experimented with all sorts of pickup/wiring/bridge/aesthetic mods since I've owned it, but I think it's in its final form now. I love this bass!

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I'd look closely for a loose connection somewhere in the harness or under the bridge pickup. Rick uses a lot of thin wire with numerous grounding points, and I've definitely on multiple occasions knocked some wires loose swapping out pickguards/trebel bezels etc. Sometimes it's as simple as...

    My experiments with cheap P-basses

I once bought a 2001 affinity P just so I could use the body with an aluminum neck. To my surprise that bass was fantastic, the fretwork was perfect, pickups were great, it weighed less than 8 pounds, even the finish was great. Played better than any mim p bass I've tried/owned. I still feel...

Could anybody recommend passive pickups for Rickenbacker 4001

As others have mentioned, if the .0047 low cut cap is in you will want to remove that. I also play in low A tuning and have tried all sorts of pickups in my ricks. I like the Duncan bridge pickup a lot, it's super loud and ballsy, drives amps really hard. I liked the Ric bartolini pickups too...

And one more just for fun. Looks like they tried a few different variations of it before deciding on the classic v1 bridge

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Here's a 4000 from 1962 with the same 4 hole tail piece. I'm guessing the bass at Norms was some sort of prototype

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Yeah that old bridge actually looks pretty good, much like the 70s starrs guitars bridges. Here's another 4001 prototype photo I found

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I agree with it being early 60s, almost looks like it was some sort of cross over between 61/63. Has the 61 pickguard/bridge/tuners/neck pickup spacing, but has the 63 bridge pickup ring and wider full width inlays. Looks so rad!

    1979 Rickenbacker 4001 - Think I Bought a Refin

Looking a little closer now it seems like maybe the back wore naturally and someone tried to paint over the wear with an acrylic paint or something.

    1979 Rickenbacker 4001 - Think I Bought a Refin

I believe it's a 4001BT (black trim), I do not believe it's a refin, if anything a pretty rare bass. Here's some photos I found on google

Thunderbird sound from something other than a T-Bird

For what it's worth I've never had any neck dive from the half dozen neck thru Epiphone thunderbirds I've owned (pro and 60s IV). The bolt on neck versions tend to dive more I'd say

Thunderbird sound from something other than a T-Bird

About 10 years ago Gibson made two versions of something similar to what you're looking for, the Gibson EB and the Gibson EB4, theyre still floating around on reverb

    Heaviest Bridge?

this kahler bridge is 9.2 ounces, I used it on a thunderbird I made and it countered the neck dive perfectly. On the extreme end the brass Hipshot Rickenbacker bridge ways over a pound

    Fodera low B string

Id put money on it being the strings and the store environment. Every time I go into a music store, 90% of the basses have a wonky setup and I end up encountering some dead sounding strings, particularly basses being hung up a bit higher on the wall, which exposes them to more extreme...

    Please help verify Rickenbacker

I believe it's actually a Russian made jolana bass. the set neck, deep belly cut, wide headstock, block inlays and zero fret are clear indicators. It has most definitely been modified and refinished.

    Rickenbacker 4003 jetglo 2008

I would say it's one of the ali express Chinese copies with a genuine Rickenbacker bridge pickup. As others have said - wrong tuners, wrong inlays, wrong bridge, belly cut on the back of the body is different, and set neck heel. Might be cool still, but not for more than $400 imo

Removing the horseshoe cover on my c64 Ric 4001

You can absolutely remove them, just as Jeff said you need some sort of material to shim underneath to make up for the thickness of the cover (I used a random 1/4" thick piece of wood I had laying around when I owned a horseshoe). No need to sell your bass or anything, this is completely reversible

    Custom lucite bass bodies???

Scalemodelguitars makes lucite mustang bodies. Robotgraves also has the ability, though I'm not sure either one would do it outside of a full build.

What bass do I have here?

Definitely a 70s/ 80s era cort/Kay bass. Looks like at some point they slimmed down the head stock and changed the bridge (my guess would be 80s as the headstock is consistent with other examples I've seen)

How do I keep my head from vibrating off my cab?

I use this egg crate foam that I pulled off the walls from our studio. Works perfectly. Also a cheap yoga mat would work fairly well.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Yes I know, what I mean is the neck pocket route has open access to remove the rods, where as the 2022 does not.

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I'm sure all of these have been covered, but I'd like to share some obvious and not so obvious differences between my jetglo 2011 and mg 2022 4003. The obvious: 2011 has a two piece maple neck, dual rods, bubinga fretboard with gloss coat, swimming pool route with heal access to truss rods...

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

I've been thinking about this too. Like a 4004 with binding, single coils and shark fin inlays. A deluxe 4004 if you will

    The Rickenbacker Club Part Twelve

Here's a fun mod I did the other day. I chopped up the stock bridge to act as a surround for a NOS vintage schaller bridge. To preface this, I play heavy gauge strings tuned AEAD, so the stock bridge is not optimal in terms of setup/intonation. I actually like the stock bridge, and if I were...

Rickenbacker 4003 hipshot bridge post 2020

I put a Hipshot on my 2022 4003. I found the G string saddle on the new bridge is still too high when bottomed out, and the mute grill has much sharper edges than the old one. For the Hipshot I just lined it up and drilled new holes, pretty painless. Plus if you don't like it the old bridge will...

    Official Orange Club II

I just picked up a TB1000 last week and I love it. It's incredibly loud and full sounding. I've owned a lot of different heads (svt, fender bassman 300, darkglass 900, mesa 800 etc) and this thing sounds just as huge, if not bigger and louder than any of them. I'm stoked!
