This is why I love my Bongo (video)

Very consistent and FULL! I love it. (sorry, pasted a wrong post before)

    New ambient / trip-hop / experimental piece ( feedback appreciated )

I love the clapping samples and the washing effect you gave them. Is that a phaser on the reverb signal? (they start at 1:33) You could get a deeper sounding kick. Since you have got the bass covering the frequencies around 100Hz you could have the kick on the subs (around 70Hz). I like the...

Putting together a small studio. Need advice.

Almost every good DAW has a MAC version so you should try the trial versions and see which one is more intuitive for you. Here are some DAWs: -Logic -Cubase -Reaper (seems you know ad like this one) -Pro Tools Virual Insrtuments? What intruments, specifically?

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

What you are refering to is the technique then, not the spectrum. The sound you describe as being a "korn bass tone" is the fret noise and string rattle heard when you attack the strings that hard. Not the "lacking mids". Also, in this kind of music there's a difference between a mix that...

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

My idea would be to eventually record some vocals, and that would take care of that problem. Nevertheless, I'm extending the tune in the middle part right now. I'm sorry to say this but you are completely clueless about what you are talking about. That bass has almost +12db of midrange added...

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

Thank you for the feedback. About the keys (it's a fender rhodes) I do agree, it is a taste thing, hehehe... I will be extending the tune in the following days, but I won't be able to break up the jazz throughout because it would be very hard to do a smooth transiton between the heavy and the...

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

Thanks for the feedback! About monotony, I can find some examples that do agree with you statement, but I'd say it's not something you want to risk (risking being monotonous and hoping it's the good kind of monotony).

Thanks for the tip! I'll take that into consideration when recording the next track.

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

Thanks for taking the time to listen and comment. I'm glad you like the little break since it's the most "out of place" part of the tune.

My solo project [heavy content and a sprinkle of jazz]

Here is the first demo track of my solo project that I was able to record and "finish" producing. The name of the project is "Rumo Entrópico", which is portuguese for "entropic path". The song is called "Turbulência" (portuguese for turbulence). [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] Everything...

Anyone with small hands play Dingwalls or 35" scale bass?

I have small hands and play a Dingwall. I can all the stretches you can imagine just fine (well, the realistic ones...). It's more a matter of practice and technique than anything else.

Those pickups are the switchable between series/parelel in regards to internal wiring, aren't they? So, are they basically two FD3s that can be switched to Mach IIs? Because I think the "PJ" set has a Mach II in the bridge.

So, do these pickups sound like a Fender Jazz??

It does resemble a Jass Bass, but...WOW! Isn't that winding machine something?

Tom Bomwlus' Z3 makes me feel like selling all my stuff to buy one. It's so marvelous! I'm going to quote myself to see if anyone can give me his opinion on my thoughts:

    This tone with a pedal

Just checked the FEAlabs Dual Band Distortion. From the video I saw it seems a lot more fizzy/grainy than the video. More artificial sounding. However, the multiband function seems fantastic.

    This tone with a pedal

I'm going to do a search for it. Yes, it's amazing. You should go over to the Ultimate Metal Andy Sneap forums and try to search for some of his stuff. He is very, very good.

    This tone with a pedal

Hi guys. I found this mix on UM. It was made by a member there that goes by the name Behindert. I bet he used a lot of mixing to get this tone, but what pedal could give a similar sound? Notice the intact low end. [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]

Awsome.:bassist: By the way, I've been thinking if I should upgrade the pickups in my combustion when Dingwall's webstore starts shipping to Europe. However, I don't know if I should choose the regular FD3s or the "PJ" set. Any opinions about the differences?

I think this has already been answered. But the answer is a no, because (IIRC) the scale length required for a consistent low F# would be too big.

    Amps with built in overdrive

I know it's a matter of taste, so please don't be offended but... The VB-2's OD channel is one of the worse sounds I've heard (from soundclips, never played one).

    Look what Dunlop sent me

Too bad I don't live in the US, or I'd just buy their stuff because of the amazing customer service. I hope they keep it up and that business goes well for them.

    I've never met a low B string I liked.

Yup, he said it all. You ought yourself to try one. They are the most amazing basses I've ever played.

    NBD! MTD Kingston Artist 5

Mmmhh, I guess it is a gamble then. I use DB210 by the way, because I didn't have money at the time to buy the db410. I'm going to get another DB210 so I can get a decent rig. I'd be interested to hear how it'll end up sounding.

The bass looks great! And so does the amp with the blue! Also, nice taste in cabinets (I have the same one, I think). From the soundclips of Nordstrand's MM it seems to sound a bit dark to me. I remember liking the sound of a Delano MM very much.

Who has heard the new TesseracT album?

Is the album out already? Aren't you talking about the Concealed Fate EP?
  30. T

What's the one thing you don't love about your bass, and why don't you change it?

My Dingwall Combustion would be perfect with two things: 1. If I could have it better centered. It's due to the strap positioning, the pin is not on the place possible, I'll think someday I'll try to get to it. 2. Slightly better pickups. While I do LOVE the sound of these pickups I think that...

How can I play more like Cliff Burton?

You don't want to be like him. You can be better, everyone can, believe me.

is it just me who doesnt dig walking bass at all!?

It's like everything, if done right it's fabulous, otherwise, it's meh.... IMO, I think it is a necessary skill for anyone who plays bass. And walking does have rhythm variations (skips, triplets, etc). I think you all should try to hear some spiced up walking bass, not just the upright...

    Ibanez SR505 or Yamaha TRB1005?

The SRs I've played all had terribly floppy B strings, really weak in that aspect, but that's just my experience.

    Ibanez SR505 or Yamaha TRB1005?

From my experience Yamaha's basses were always better instruments in relation to Ibanez's. This, of course, regarding the same price range. I would be more interested in the BTB line, and it's more alike to the TRBs than the SRs. TRBs and BTBs have 35" scales, so they tend to have better B...
