Seems to me you are being extremely nit-picky with this comment. The rhythm and music came first before anybody thought to write it down. Yes a rhythm can be stiff. "Stiff" is a relative term anyways. You are supposed to feel music, you live it.

+1000 I thought this was the case as well, from reading historical books and learning from older musicians. African slaves had their music. The slave owner had his. Over hundreds of years the two came to influence each other greatly. It's still changing today.

I don't know if you prefer hearing a drum beat, but you can work on your groove with a metronome also. I am a drummer also. I use the metronome for practice on both drums and bass.

I thought the "mojo" aging process only happened to guitars with the nitro finish. I have always heard\read that nitro is the only finish that lets the wood "breathe". Or is this a misconception on my part?
