Your First Electric Bass-What Inspired You?

Interesting! Was that a real el cheapo Kingston? My first bass was a Kingston purchased brand new in 1969 at Musicland Record Store. Also short scale. Totally incapable of playing in tune! I think it cost all of $40. Anyway, I have seen comments the last few years that have led me to believe...

I changed mine. I don't remember now exactly what I used, but I put a post in this thread about it and I know it's not the threaded one. This looks like what you want though: http://angela.com/fendermexicojazzmasterjaguarvibratounit.aspx The arm is separate...

If both arms are the same length then it sounds more like you might have gotten a Mexico arm. A Strat arm will be 1 1/2 to 2" shorter than a Jag/Jazz/VI arm. It don't matter anyway, since like SneakyT said, it won't work. :)

Just as an FYI, I believe I mentioned that the 62 AVRI Jag pickups I have measured around 6-7K although they were advertised to be hotter than the originals. The pickups on my 50th Anniversary (also advertised as hotter than original, and I had assumed they were the same pickups as on the 62...

The post I made above was wrong WRT the 61 AVRI Vibrato parts. I was going by the packaging which was marked "62Jag" and didn't check the part numbers. I would have swore when I bought 'em they were supposed to be the US version, too. According to the part numbers I have researched, the unit I...

Note: Post has been edited to correct the parts I used Sorry, I didn't get any pics while I was working (a bad habit I guess. Once I start working I don't always think to document things). I do have some parts comparison pics and a drawing of the neck shim. First, I replaced the Vibrato...

Mine came in at 11.33K, 6.15K, and 5.77K I was wondering about it also. I really hadn't paid any attention before I got mine, and expected they would have the same Duncan Designed pickups as the Vintage Mod Jaguar. I haven't measured the Jag pickups so I don't know if the bridge has more...

Thanks! I posted a pic of mine above, but here's one without all the lines and numbers! :) I got Phaedra here just before Thanksgiving from Sweetwater. Looks and sounds great, even with the small Low-E. It does have one problem in that there is a gap in the neck pocket on the bass side...

    * Since this is an offset, the widest point is at two different distances from the tail end. Invalid Link Removed BTW, the case I have here fits pretty good, but I'm not sure just what it is. What I ordered and what the invoice lists, is a Douglas EGC-200 SJM Jaguar guitar case. I bought it...

Removing only a fret or two question

No it will not hurt anything but the looks, so if you're not using those frets, you can pull them out. You don't need a hammer and screwdriver though, they should come out fairly easy. If you aren't concerned with cosmetic damage to the fretboard, then use a pair of wire cutters to pry them up...

Squier Bass VI. At last an affordable, somewhat correct VI!

I think the deal with Sweetwater is that they did not plan on stocking these. I believe I was the first to order one (7/24 or 7/25) in white anyway, from them and was told it was "special order". I think MF and others planned to stock them so they ordered earlier and ordered more and they are a...

Those necks that look and feel unfinished, do actually have a satin finish on them. Maple will deteriorate noticeably if there is no finish on it. I have a Squire bullet Strat that I thought had no finish on the neck, until I tried to stain it.

Installing a cap selector switch in a Precision Bass

For Capacitors in parallel, you add the values. So if you have a .047 in the bass, and and a .047 in the box, and both tone controls are at 0, you would have a total capacitance of .094. Or if you have a .01 and a .047, the total would be .057. I don't know exactly how the resistance would...

Installing a cap selector switch in a Precision Bass

It's commonly called Hookup Wire in the electronics world. You'll want #22 (or "22 gauge") or #24 stranded (not solid). 24 is a bit smaller diameter.

I ordered mine from Sweetwater in late July (25th I think). I believe, according to reports earlier in this thread, that at that time, stores who called Fender were told it didn't exist, but some found that it was in fact listed in Fender's online ordering system. I made sure to mention this...

One difference in the Warmoth is that theirs is made for Strat pickups and another is I think they only have three switches on the switch plate, so the cutout for it might not be big enough.

If you want to block it so it doesn't work at all, you just have to tighten the adjusting screw all the way. If you want to be able to lower the pitch but not have it be affected by a broken string, you would put a block between the plates, which is what the lock button does on the Fender models.

Fender did that on some Telecaster Deluxe HH's with the S-1 switch, according to a schematic I got off their site (American Deluxe Telecaster, FMT/QMT 0101670/1680). They used a .022 on the bridge pickup and a .05 on the neck. I wired my Telecaster with a toggle to do the same thing in one...
