What exactly are the requirements to qualify as 'tricked out'? Doing some work on my VM PJ, but not sure it'd be enough to qualify
Are you talking about the small-post tuners that come on some Affinity 4 and 5-strings?
The mid-sized open-gear tuners that come on MIM Fenders and Squier VM's and CV's are too big. I believe that Gotoh sealed tuners and Hipshot Ultralites are available with the smaller 3/8" post, although the headstock may need shimming, reaming and/or drilling to make them fit.

Thanks man - I was in GC/SF this morning and they have (behind gla$$) a sunburst early '66 J with some nice road-wear, similarly "sculpted" but less than mine.
So far, I'm working on the following; swapping the V/V/T setup to a 3 way switch (P/PJ/J)/V/T, rolling the fretboard edges, changing the nut, replacing the dome knobs with Precision barrels, and replacing the pots & jack socket. Already put straplocks & DR Lo Riders on, as I do with pretty much every bass I buy.
Going to practise & gig with it for a month or so, and if I'm happy with the way it turns out, probably going to switch out the pups, install some Hipshot Ultralites, and put on either a Babicz or Badass II bridge. Maybe add another string tree for the A string. I'm also tempted to change the bridge pickup to an Am Deluxe Precision humbucker, but that's just an idea at the moment. At this stage I may pay to get a tech to do a full fret dress, too. At this stage, I'm sure it would count as tricked out
The instrument is a very comfortable weight, and I like the neck more than any others I've played in the last two years, so if I can get it set up to my liking I have no qualms putting money into it. I've already gigged it stock, and was happy with it then, so I've got high hopes for it.

Just added the maple/maple neck. It's a 98 Mighty Mite. Nice and chunky. .02" wider at the nut than the stock Affinity neck.

I've been thinking of replacing the neck on my affinity too my man, like you, I think the neck plays ridiculously well and the balance is phenomenal. I'm afraid of messing that up. How's the balance and play now that you've changed it?
Gregmon, after that description of your necks attributes, I can't think of a better reason to just go ahead and swap it!

I was planning on replacing the bridge for sure. I've already swapped out the stock bridge and put a vintage threaded fender on it. But I wanted something more stylish so yeah, I probably will. Maybe I'll finally get a babidz or however you spell it. I'm going on eBay now to look! Hehe now that the seed is planted, y'all may see an updated pic in the week or two to come. I also was thinking of putting a maple board on it too but I'm worried it'll effect the already awesome balance and playability of it.
I just noticed the black block markers. Nice touch I never thought of putting black markers on a rosewood board. Looks awesome! Got any good pics of the neck?
I will post a better pic here in a little bit. Thanks! I wasn't sure how it would look but I put them on and I can live with it. I just ordered a wilkinson black bridge too with brass saddles. Hopefully it's worth more than the price I paid. Which wasn't much. Pics to come.
Make it string through body. Babicz has a new 4 string fender version that is string through. Super rad. I wish I did that on my jazz.
Balance is fine with this neck. This neck plays just fine, board is certainly a flatter radius than the Affinity neck and the action is pretty low too. I'm at about 5/64 on the bass side and 3/64" on the treble, so it's lower than "fender spec". Action was about the same on the OEM neck.
So the playability is there. But the OEM Affinity neck just feels really really good. So good that I can't possibly get rid of it. I'm not on the prowl for a body to mate with that neck. I bought this bass with the intention of building my own Steve Harris bass and that's what I'm doing but I NEVER expect the neck on this thing to be so good.
