3 Point or?

Not sure....? I'd like to hear the pros and cons to the Hipshot Supertone.

I've read on here that most either love or hate the 3 point.

Biggest reason I'd change would be to improve the tone/sustain and playability of the bass, but I have not read anywhere that that is absolutely the case.

I am lovin' this bass though. The Thunderbuckers are KILLIN':bassist:

How well did the tuners fit? My clover hipshot tuners touch when I tune it. I guess I could adjust them but I don't want to drill any new holes.

They are a direct "drop in" fit. Custom for newer Tbirds.
Spoke with Jason at Hipshot. When I got them, they were in bubble wrap, no box.

My pic shows them with the bass tuned. The clovers don't touch when they are in line.

It definitely improved the sustain and playability of my NR reissue. The individual string height adjustment made a big difference in how low i am able to get the action and it has noticeably more sustain and resonance. I think it will overhang the raised center portion on a Reverse ever so slightly though.

Would you say there is any difference in tone or sustain?

Hipshot says "Breathe new life into your Gibson".....:eyebrow:

Yeah, others have noticed it more than I. I can't say I have noticed much personally. But Patrick Pfeiffer, my bass teacher and friend, said he noticed a diff. And I don't think he said it just to make me feel good.

If you're happy with how your bass sounds, I wouldn't go through the effort to change out the bridge. I'd just do it if you want the added adjustability. I love narrow string spacing, which this helps with. My old Danelectro spoiled me in that way.

I'm awaiting a prototype bridge/tailpiece from Steve to replace the three point on my '77. It may be what you're looking for to go with the ThunderBuckers. It's a variation on this:

You should already have plenty of sustain, 3 point or not, Thunderbirds just do that.
I've never replaced a 3 point for playability or tone as Mike Lull does my set ups, he knows his way around them well and he has made all of mine play very nicely. The aesthics alone of the hipshot keep me from bothering tho, it just doesn't go with the classic Thunderbird shape to my eye - The hipshot does IIRC offer string height and spacing adjustment tho.
