a quick idea i knocked together for the headstock - needs refining!

Very nice, HyperSoul.
In other news, I just took possession of my new Epi Blackbird toy. £150 off eBay, in pristine condition.
Initial impressions are that I rather like the single sound available - seems well-rounded and reasonably powerful. I always do any sound-tinkering on my amp anyway, so on/off does me fine. The satin finish is pleasant on the left hand, and I like the rounded-edges headstock. Something a little different from the "stepped" one on my other birds.
I note that it doesn't have the "beergut-shelf" cutaway in the back of the body that my 1990 Gibson and Epi Pro-IV have - not sure whether this is standard on the "cheaper" Epiphones.
It fits nicely in the Epiphone hard case too, whereas the Pro-IV's headstock is dangerously close to the end of the box.
The scratchplate appears to be smaller than those on the Gibson/Pro-IV (which are pretty much interchangeable). I had an old white Epi scratchplate lying about that fitted neither, but it's an exact fit on the Blackbird. I have, therefore, removed the Iron Cross transparent one and replaced it with white.
Opti-Grab gadget? Kind of pointless unless you're Mr Sixx, is my opinion.

When I had a bigger gut they fit just fine.
Here's a better pic..the maple body really makes the bass cut through, and even sounds loud unplugged...
