    markbass tube 800 scratchy pots

Fyi - I posted this issue on FB in Basses And Amplification and got a very interesting answer from someone, some of these guys are techs: "Yes, slightly scratchy pots are normal for MB amps. The problem is not the pots per se, but the fact that they use JFET op-amps with high input impedance...

    markbass tube 800 scratchy pots

I just got my LMIII back from repair. They replaced the preamp board which houses all of the pots. Two of them are a little scratchy but only when a signal is going through them as I turn the pots up and down. I'm afraid if I send it in again I'm going to have the same issue anyway. It's not a...

    Nordstrand Big Break pickups?

Just got a great deal on an Ibanez Premium SR1305SB that has the Big Breaks. I also have an older 1405 that has the Big Singles and here is my experience/opinion so far... 1. I always run both pickups center balanced and there is a huge difference in volume when using the pre-amp, the Big Breaks...

    Peavey minimax 600

Just got this, sounds just as good or better than my old Markbass LMIII and the fan is a non issue, once you or the band start playing. Very happy.

    NAD: Harley Benton Block-800B MKII

I've been looking at this also. I have a Markbass LMIII that has a static noise issue, did everything I could to fix it. It will probably cost as much to ship and fix as it would be to just buy a new 800B with a 3 year warranty. I looked at the HB sight and it also looks like it will fit into my...

    Reverend Mercali 5 anyone?

How's the neck dive on these Mercalli's? I saw a video and it didn't look too good, really neck heavy. That's the only thing I hated about my Thunderbird back in the day is having to hold the neck up.

    Thoughts on Reverend Mercalli 5?

I was thinking about getting one, but then I heard the neck dive was pretty bad. Is that true?

    Seeking 5 string lightweight options

Hi, I need suggestions on lightweight 5 string basses (8 pounds or lighter). Please mention anything except Ibanez SR series. I already have those, I want something different. Thanks in advance.

What is YOUR Measure of Success as a Bassist?

Pretty much everything that can be said has been said. But this is the best one: "If I am having a good time, I am successful." I'll just add that one of the ways I know I'm successful is when I can play everything on my bands setlist and remember all the words when I'm singing.

    MarkBass or Hartke?

I have both Markbass and Hartke. The MB LMIII w\ 2x10 and 1x15 is for outdoors and big stages and my Hartke HD500 is for smaller indoor gigs. They're each a little different but they both sound fantastic.

    Ampeg B2RE Head Problem

I know this is an old post, but it's an issue with the first op amp "IC1" in the pre-amp circuit. I've had to replace 2 already.

Is the Peavy Max 208 loud enough for rehearsals?

Hi, I've been looking at this amp because of the weight and the wattage not being too low. Is it loud enough to keep up with drums and guitar? How will it handle a low B string? Or should I look at something else?

Carvin PB5 or Fender Precision V?

My Fender Am Deluxe Jazz V is the best bass I've ever owned. I love everything about it. The B string kills! Now I want a P bass V, but they don't make it with a J pickup at the bridge. I gotta have that. P basses to me are too hollow sounding without it. I voted for the PB5 and am going to...

Bass players with great stage presence

Nikki Sixx has always been my favorite. I saw him starting when he was in a band many years ago in Hollywood called London. When I heard he had a new band called Motley Crue, I knew it would be big, cause he was in it. Best dressed too.

Have you ever been laughed at for playing a cheap bass

I never was laughed at for using cheap basses in the past. Never. But, I have seen some really good players sounding terrible through their gear. I didn't laugh, just felt bummed for them.

    Ibanez or Fender?

For me it's just the opposite. The B string on my Jass V blows away any Ibanez I've ever played. I say Fender all the way.

Fender American Jazz Bass vs. MusicMan Stingray 4

I have both in 5 string versions. The Stingray has a better slap tone, but the Jazz to me is more versatile tone wize. I play rock and funk. If I had to choose between the two, there would be no way I'd get rid of the Jazz.

    I just don't get it!

According to one of the guys I've talked to at MM, the Sterlings have the same kind of pickups that the older StingRay 5's had, the ceramic ones. That's what I have on my SR5. I also have a Jazz and yes the bottom end on the SR5 is not as thunderous. But I don't think my SR5 is whimpy at all...

    Carvin SB5000 / SB4000 Roll Call...Part 7!

Yes, I would still pay that because I have the option of more options than just the 5 I get with Fender for that price. BTW, I am going to get an SB for myself this summer and it better be the bees knees, cause I absolutely love my Fender Deluxe 5.
