    Fodera Club Part XXVII

Yeah Michele, it looks like I need to play around with finding a balance between the neck relief and the bridge action. I just need to take more time with it. A huge thanks for your input! KoaFodera, right now the neck it almost completely straight, and I think that's the main problem. Adding...

That is a stunning fingerboard...like having a presentation top on your neck! Do you keep your action really low, or is it the angle of the pic? Just curious because winter here in the mid Atlantic has wreaked havoc on my intonation, neck and ebony fingerboard. I did a setup a month ago but...

I agree with Rich. I would add that the attack of the ebony is quicker. Maybe try a Kingwood board? Jason tapped some for me when I was at the shop...sounded very nice. A good option between Indian RW and Ebony.

I have a Mahogany/Ash/Mahogany body on my Monarch. It's a bolt-on with Ebony FB, but FWIW it's very rich and punchy. Plenty on crunch/low end thump. Lot's of mid range growl, if that's what you like. It's very versatile though. Gets a great slap tone and sounds great with the bridge pup soloed...

I had a great visit at the shop today for a set up and a minor repair(don't be like me and have someone set up your bass that has never worked on a Fodera). Everything I've heard is true about how welcoming they are. Joey could tell why I was having intonation issues just by looking at the...

Have any of you folks ever drivin to the shop in Brooklin? I recall some saying that parking was not easy. I want to get some work done, and would like to drop the bass off myself just to see the place and meet the wonderful people there. Any thoughts or advice?

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

I did the exact same thing on my monarch. I realized that where my fingers were playing 95% of the time was right over the back PUP...which was not the case with previous basses. The Poles bugged me as well, so on went non exposed covers. A much better feel, although I am toying with the idea of...

That is a beauty! I notice you have a white veneer between the top and body. Hou's bass has both white and black veneers. Was that something you guys asked for, or is that just Vinny's choice. I would imagine two veneers would be an upgrade.

I would think a Mahogany body with Indian Rosewood fingerboard would get you there. Not sure whether the PUPs would be better in 60's or 70's position..probably 60's. For a neck-thru, same fb with alder wings and mahogany tone block...might be better.

I put some DR Low Riders on my Monarch and very quickly took them off. They sound great on my Warwick, but they completely changed the tone of the Fodera. Did your bass come with nickel or stainless?

SOLD FS/FT Fodera AJ bolt-on Contra w/case *Price Drop*

I have heard this bass in some youtube videos when it was up for sale(through bass UK I think)...sounds killer! I almost changed my specs during my build to match this. Sorry you have to part with it Chris.

Yeah, I've seen this video. He plays a 4x10 cab I believe, plus has an all ash bass. Mine has Mahogany wings with Ash tone block. I kinda jumped the gun with that 210 combo without thinking about my own bass, needs and playing style. I also got a better tone though it in single coil. In fact...

Thanks Steve..that is very helpful! I'm on my way out the door to return the MB combo. I'm going to try several different heads out with different cabs. Fortunately (or not) I only have rehearsals and no gigs for the next several weeks.

Do you use the Newtones with the hex or round core? I love the higher tension of the DR lowriders, but while sounding good on my Warwick, they sounded terrible on my Monarch. Not sure if it's the core or not.

By the way Todd, I was wodering about your recent bassectamy. How does switching the necks affect the serial numbers? Is your new fretless YY(as well as the one you sold) still covered by the warranty?

    Fodera Club Part XXVII

Todd, I hear what you are saying about GC. I usually hit up two small local places, Jivesound and Crossroads guitars. Necessity led me there, but I know I can return the rig no harm no foul, which I just might do. I keep playing with the settings on the bass and the amp and I can't get it at...

Anyone here use or have you used Markbass with your Fodera? I sold my SWR Workingpro 15 and picked up the 210 combo. Some of my favorite players(Kennedy, Caron, etc) use them. I am not 100% sure I am getting what I want out of it. I wanted a combo that was light, small, and with enough heft to...

The Emperor Standard special has a maple board;) That's crazy..I had the exact same thing happen with my Monarch. I ordered a set of PUP covers with no holes. And I agree, I was this(use your imagination) close to ordering a standard, but fate led me to a custom..very happy with it!

    Fodera Club Part XXVI

I totally agree. The only set back is people asking what kind of pick up that is:hmm:
  34. Plunger

    Fodera Club Part XXVI

Yeah, a better way of asking would have been the no up charge top. The standard top the the MS fretless is pretty as well, but the difference is obvious.

Here's a cool article about jazz improv, and it has some tidbits from our very own Pontiff. It's a recent article, but I think the study was done some some time ago. I could be wrong. http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2014/02/how-brains-see-music-as-language/283936/

    Fodera Club Part XXV

I totally agree with your string comparison. My Monarch came with 45-125 Nickels. I loved the feel and the tone down low was great, but was not crazy about the higher ends. I tried DR lo riders, and could not stand how they sounded. It sounded like a different instrument. I've been using those...
