Just wanted to poke my head up once again and say how amazed I am every time I play this bass. I am fortunate to be able to try out a number of very excellent basses. And yet, this one still blows me away every single time...

I couldn't agree with you more, Tom!
My E5S is truly an outstanding (feel, sound & build-quality) instrument.
Thanks to the Fodera family of luthiers for crafting such a high-level professional tool.

BTW - Thanks to George @ Bass San Diego for the great photograph! :-)

I’ll be going with a Monarch 5 bolt-on, 3-piece maple neck, ash body, maple fret board, ebony ramp, dual-coil (non-exposed), 3x2 peg-head, black hardware, 34-scale, 22-fret, 17.5 mm string spacing tone monster that I just cannot even begin to tell you how happy I will be to play. It’ll likely have a walnut top, but Jason and the gang are kindly sending me pictures of a few lower-cost upcharge tops to evaluate (certain cuts of flamed redwood, myrtle burl, spalted maple). The aesthetic thing for me will likely be a decision between an upcharge top or wooden pickup covers. We’ll see, plenty of time to decide, and either way I’ll be extremely happy.

As to the ash over alder decision, which largely dominated my discussion with Jason (rightly so), he said one simple thing in particular that resonated. He basically just noted that a maple/alder bass would be more tonally similar to my rosewood/ash MS4S than a maple/ash bass would (not necessarily that bright body/warm fretboard basses sound the same as warm body/bright fretboard basses, just that they sit on the same end of the tonal spectrum and share a few characteristics). I love my MS4S for many, many reasons - favorite/best bass I’ve ever played, let alone owned. But the tone has never been absolutely spot on for me. I’ve always wanted a little more bark immediately following my attack. I play with extra light gauge strings and also have a very light touch (plus I slap a little with a pretty silly jam/funk outfit I play with every once and a while) and I’ve missed the initial “push” or “snap” just after my attack that ash/maple provides. Plus, if all goes well, I’m hoping to be able to also keep my MS4S, in which case, I will have both combos. So, all in all, I am very comfortable with my decision on specs and cannot wait to continue working my tail off for the next year in the name of her delivery.

Man! This is awesome!!! I'm about halfway paid on my build, but following this diet regimen will get me paid off sooner!!!

Lol!

I feel your pain on waiting I am fifteen months in on another builder ,and don't know when it will be ready. You will find a away to keep all of your basses. I suggest the Boutique Bass Diet. Scrambled eggs in the morning ,Tuna and vegetables for lunch. Chicken breast and veggies for dinner. I buy it all at Costco the first of the week. When I wrote down how much money I was spending on take out food for two weeks I thought h@$& s@$t! If I cut this out, my bass will be 90% paid for by the time it arrives. Lose weight, healthier lifestyle, and a Fodera :bassist:

I have always love spalted maple tops :)

Likewise. I generally go for some contrast on my basses, so we'll see if there are any darker pieces out there to distinguish themselves from the birdseye. There are two really good looking birdseye/spalt basses in the newborns (one Monarch, one Emperor), that definitely piqued my interest.

Either way, I love the walnut tops that have been popping up in the last two years, and I also love the look of Walnut/Maple, so I don't think I can go wrong at all.

It works when I'm eating tuna for lunch daily and would rather have Chinese , I think of the upgrades I chose Brazilian Rosewood ,Crotch Walnut, and Tulip inlays. It's so worth it and I am losing weight and getting in shape !

No joke! Great way of looking at it!

Crazy to think that my bass will be done in about 6 months... Here's a pic of my top again for the 3rd time! Lol ImageUploadedByTalkBass1395361181.428943.jpg

I'm really excited! Especially since this will be, if not the first, one of the first custom Emperor II bolt- ons!

That Walnut is gorgeous ! How cool to have the first custom bolt on Emperor II. I'm excited for you and everyone else who has a Fodera on order. And to everyone who dreams of owning a Fodera I hope you all find a way to make it come true!!!!!
