Here is the Crotch Walnut top for my future Emperor Deluxe. I cant wait to see the magic Fodera does with it. Specs are Alder body, Duncan singles in sixties position ,34scale,Brazilian Rosewood board, and Tulip inlays. Should be in my grubby hands by late August early September. Thank you Jason and Glenn you are the greatest!!!

since this IS the Fodera thread I'll say this - the only Fodera I have currently (having had 5 over the years) is the Mother of the Bass of Doom - an Imp Elite 5 FL 36"

it sucks up soooo much sonic space that it must be dialed back and compressed when recording (and I hate compression) - it seriously overpowers even grand pianos in saturation when you look at the wave file

playing this wonderful bass live, I really appreciate the lines, even after 4 decades of ear training

+1, the bass in my avatar is a 36" Imperial 6 fretless with lines and it sounds unbelievable deep and rich, yet organic and clear. I recently recorded 2 ballads with it and the producer asked for this bass even if he did not want to hear the typical fretless mwah, he only preferred the unbelievable clear deepness and full tone on its lower registers.

I am not crazy about 36", but this particular bass is a stunning example.

For me lines are helpful. But on a 36" it is even more important to position the left hand fingers like Gary Willis has stated in his book.

+1, the bass in my avatar is a 36" Imperial 6 fretless with lines and it sounds unbelievable deep and rich, yet organic and clear. I recently recorded 2 ballads with it and the producer asked for this bass even if he did not want to hear the typical fretless mwah, he only preferred the unbelievable clear deepness and full tone on its lower registers.

In terms of Brazilian RW, the insane amount of paperwork that needs to be done to comply with all laws related to shipping of this material virtually guarantees that after the 50 or 60 remaining FB's that we have in house are gone we will no longer be building with this amazing material.

I used Brazilian RW on four of the Monarchs that we built for me over the past 6 years and it's going to be really sad to not be able to work with it anymore...

I'm a bit late for the BrazRW love that was going on a bit earlier, but I thought this made a nice segue into sharing my specs that were finalized and I have a production start date for:

Emperor 5 Elite
34" / 24 fret / E-C / 17.5mm spacing
Alder Body
Ash Tone Block
Braz RW Fingerboard
Braz RW Top
3 piece maple neck
Duncan DC in 60's spacing

Warm, beautiful, orchestral-like, versatile tone was the name of the game for this build. I intend to play this bass for essentially any type of gig. The build evolved a bit since it's first incarnation (as I'm sure most do). I changed to E-C tuning at the last minute with the realization that, for me, the B string would almost always be a thumb rest with the exception of a few final notes on tunes (I've been a 4 string player for 15 years so it'll all be new to me). The C string should give me some positioning options for chordal playing I haven't dreamed of yet.

Jason spent the better part of two hours with me tapping on the Braz RW FBs in the shop, listening for the perfect combination of color and sustain. Some of those boards just rang like bells.

For those of you guffawing at the Braz RW top - I hear you. It is an insane option almost exclusively for cosmetics. What can I say...after staring at the Newborn section for 3 months straight, I had developed a love affair with BrazRW that won't be satiated until I own one. I went with a sapwood stripe down the center. Definitely a once in a lifetime upgrade for me.

+1. My Imperial has a 1 piece Braz RW top as well. Totally a meaningless upgrade other than aesthetically, but it sure is nice looking. Def not a fan of E-C but this bass is going to be gorgeous!

Always love the Brazilian rosewood / Sapwood top kind of thing.. but I never able to justify myself the costs on the wood. :scowl:

That will be an incredible bass. Alder + 60's + RW could not be more classic.

No need to justify the top- if you are already spending as much as you are for a Fodera, you might as well spend a bit more to make it fun to look at (if it is within your budget).

Very nice. If it does works for you! You can just sell it to me Just get it without fingerboard dots

Unlike many top woods, BRW definitely imparts its sonic signature on our instruments. It's more of a significant flavor than a main ingredient, but it's definitely more than mere cosmetics. IMHO, of course.
