I don't think you could do better than a used Spector NS2A. There's a supposed NS2 at GC used for $425 at the Marietta, GA store that they will ship to your local GC for $50 or so. Call them first and make sure it's okay before you bother. It's probably a Korean NS2A not an American NS2 for that...

The control cavity is a little weird as the battery sits on top of the foam to separate it from the electronics. It may not have been that way originally though.

That Cirrus has such a bad reverse bow in the neck that the D and G strings bottom out. It's been returned once already (not by me - I have not seen the bass). The guys in that store are very up front about it and think it can be fixed with a truss rod adjustment but reverse bows scare me.

The deal with the MM/J configuration is that you can split the MM to get a JJ. But, the classic MM pickup position is not the classic J bridge position. So, every MM/J bass has to either a) put the MM in the classic MM position, which is the wrong position for a J bridge pickup when you split it...

This is a killer pre and this is a great price. Better than most everything else in the $200 range, I personally prefer only the BBE (the new one, not the 383). This is better than the Peaveys and whatnot (and the Peaveys are pretty good). If I didn't have one I'd be on this.
