    I'v run trace's for years, always loud always heavy.. as people have said already the preshape is whats known as the trace tone.. bit mid scoopy but very defined.. trace amps are very flexible, you can pull a lot of different sounds out, always run best with the preamp set a little high...

    Cheers chap!, but no guitarist is on a full stack mesa dual rec roadster, the little fender is my side amp, runs off the bass through a pog and gets kicked in during solos etc as we are only a three piece.. :-)

    its simple.. we all learned to play bass right.. but some of us learned how to use effects as well.. easy way to shut em up is play something that sounds stunning through your effects.. then zero all the knobs and ask the "fingers/strings" guy to try and play/ sound the same.. he wont be able...

    I never wanted to be a bass player!.. no one made me want to be one.. I just am one.. but personal faves are greg ridley, tony petit, and lemmy of course

    Yeah he was effortless, I was best mates with his son, even got to jam with him in his cottage a few times. A great talent, and a very nice guy, sadly I was too young at the time to realise just how famous he'd been, nor how respected.. he always had time to show me a few new licks. a good guy...

    If your after Gregs sound you also need to know he used tapewound strings.. much later he used flatwounds.. I was lucky enough to know him and play his bass many times. Stevie.
