Let's see those Work Horse Basses!

Here's another workhorse. This bass was a gift from my music teacher mother. Custom built for me 30 yrs ago. One of one, by Doug Roomian, SF. It does most jazz fusion type things. All passive with the old white DiMarzios. Nitro finish, Thick Ebony slab board, solid Koa wings, maple tone block, Bolt on neck. Also if you look at the radius it's almost cello like, no idea just what the radius is. Monster Joco, mwah tones for days.

Here is my "tour rig" (not much to it) prior to departing on a 30 day southern U.S.A. tour in 2014. The amp and bass case have definitely got more beat since then, and maybe the bass too.

The amp is a '96 or '97 B100R that I bought new. The bass is made of parts. MIJ Fender '60's reissue body. Duncan 1/4 Lb. pickup. Fender U.S.A. replacement neck. Not sure about the case. These "Fender replacement" necks were available briefly. They were basically loose AVRI necks (old-style construction, finished in yellow lacquer), but without the model names on the decals (just "Fender").

I got the bass *mostly* this way 17 years ago (though it was in much better condition then). I swapped in a white guard in place of the tortoise that it came with, and re-positioned the finger rest as a thumb rest. I also added heavy flats and tons of muting under the bridge cover (it has almost no sustain – all "plunk"). I don't like the gold tuners, but I have yet to get around to swapping them out. All the chips down to the wood have been filled with either car touch-up paint or Sharpie. Not proper finish repairs – just enough to make it look better from a distance. I was able to hold on to that broken piece of pickguard for many years via a piece of gaffer tape, but it finally got lost at some point.

My trusty Japanese Fender P Bass. The neck was made in 1987 and I painted the headstock Fiesta Red. The body is a 2007 take off body also Fiesta Red. Black Badass II bridge, black Schaller tuners and black anodized pick guard. I had an EMG pickup but changed to passive Seymour Duncan Hot Wound pickup. Also La Bella Deep Talkin' flats. This is my go to workhorse bass!

Cool bass. Where do you play? I live in Alexandria and always am interested in checking out other bands.

Here's one workhorse. The SX P-nut clone. Stock except for a swap of the barrel jack to a Switchcraft.
SX swb1.5N - Copyx.jpg

I like the individual bridge saddles. Allows the strings to breathe on their own rather than fight sympathetic vibrations on a large mass bridge. Let's the wood add something to the mix.
This is the better preamp model of the previous SX SWB 1/5 in natural oil similar to the P-nut.
DR Lo-Riders.

Holy Shnikes! I LOVE the Trace rig! 4-10's & 2-15's! Your guitarist that plays that Fender Twin must be scared to plug in next to you!! You should point that fog machine right at that guy and his annoying Little Girly Man amp!!!
Cheers chap!, but no guitarist is on a full stack mesa dual rec roadster, the little fender is my side amp, runs off the bass through a pog and gets kicked in during solos etc as we are only a three piece.. :-)

Sounds cool! I had the pleasure of a TE stack back in the 90’s. That rig garnered so much adoration in the Hollywood scene! The weight was an issue but man whata tone!
