My experience is a different one. I had tried quite a bunch of strat-style pickups and basically all worked, but of course soundwise several ones did not meet my taste. As well there are several strat-style pickups which may be problematic because of size, for example vertical humbuckers and...

Couple of questions on MIJ/CIJ Fender Mustangs and how they compare to MIM/Vintera

my 2 ct: I once had a MIJ from 2006 in vintage white and I could not really connect with it. I had the impression, the sound was much more "damped" or "dullish" in comparison to my musicmaster bass, which had more "clarity" and "openness" in its sound. But maybe I am just not a mustang guy. I...

Yes, sorry, you're right. I thought, these Les Paul Basses were built earlier as well, but that's not the case... At reverb a Les Paul Bass from 1973 is listed, first owner, serial number 101864. PS: in Germany a Les Paul Bass from 1976 is listed: 108559

Honestly, no. I bought some for 600 - 800 Euros several years ago, but that was my maximum. I was curious that time, if 1971 Musicmaster Basses would be better than the later ones, but, no, they just were a bit different. I went with Squier Bronco Basses instead. I still have 2 Musicmasters and...

I had 2000, 2002, 2006 and 2020 (SHP) Broncos and a 2007 Badtz-Maru. All had the smaller cheaper pots, but functionally ok. I do not remember the caps though.

Interesting variant with the lollypop tuners - are they original equipped?
  18. matt-o-

Th Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club

No. Big and heavy tuners favor neckdive, therefore I exchanged the original tuners for hipshot ultralight. The weight reduction on the later musicmaster basses with the bigger tuners was quite significant (ca.200g), for the earliers not so much.

    The Fender/Squier Bullet Bass Thread

Hi Dirk, as far as I know: the Squier Bullet Basses are size wise similar to the US made B34 long scale Bullets, but have a bigger pickguard, which fits the shape of the body better. The US long scale Bullet models used the pickguard from the B-30 short scales, which was too small and therefore...

    Three Volume Knobs Question

No. The left volume is used for the input gain of the preamplifier and the right master is the "loudness" knob and should be set according to your playing situation. Dependent on the amp topology the left input gain can be used for saturation or distortion and the right master is for the...

CIJ Mustang bass vs 1972 Musicmaster Bass

I am a musicmaster or bronco bass guy. For one: I prefer string through saddle as opposed to string through body (less hassle with string choice). I had the CIJ mustang as my 2nd bass besides my musicmaster for a while. For a short period I preferred the smaller neck width of the mustang and...

Th Official Fender Musicmaster Bass Club

Hi, re 1: my experience now as well, depending on the strings and the action you are getting acceptable intonation with the 2 saddle bridge. If I am not pressing the string exactly perpendicular, I am detuning it and intonation as well. So it depends a lot on your playing style, if it is worth...

I have a 1997 Squier Musicmaster Bass, 2002&2006&2007&2020 Bronco Basses - all necks are fine. They even darken over the years ;-) (although I am fine with their pale maple necks...)

    The Fender/Squier Bullet Bass Thread

The neck looks great! But are you sure, it is a B34? I thought the long scale Bullets had "Deluxe" in the name and the pickguard is very typically not fitting the lower shape of the body. I would on first sight guess, that your's a short scale B30. But for sure, the fret spacing indicates a long...

    Fender ABG Club

Oh yes, it is such a rare bird, I never could let it go. Loudnesswise just more mids than the BG29. The BG29 sounds like a real bass, while the FR51 is much more percussive. Very short sustain. Plink-e-dy-plonk...

    Fender ABG Club

Oh yes, the FR51, a very peculiar instrument. Pretty difficult to intonate. I swapped the super dull active humbucker for a passive noiseless tele neck pu. Gives it a more dry percussive character...

    The Fender/Squier Bullet Bass Thread

My musicmaster basses have 40 and 41mm neck width at nut and the bullet 42mm. At the end of the fretboard they have the same width. The main difference ist, that the neckshape is more of a V style (although a bit less thick) with pretty sharp edges at the fingerboard, while the musicmaster is...

    The Fender/Squier Bullet Bass Thread

The neck on my B30 Bullet is broader than my musicmaster basses. I think the radius is more flat as well. While the neck on my musicmaster and bronco basses (except for the Badtz Maru) feel pretty similar, the B30 feels different than those. Not worse, but a different animal.

    Fender Squier Sonic Series

Hmm, I think I had one of the first batch of Sonic Broncos in Tahitian Coral in Germany (230055.. bought 3/31/23), which was from China, but with skunk stripe, flawless condition, powerful pickup - really fine (only the strings sucked...). It seems to be unpredictable to determine a system in...
